Some of the best in the world will make their way to Pebble Beach, California and the Pebble Beach Resort for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week. The pro-am is unique to the sport of golf in that it combines amateur players with the professionals in what is supposed to be a fun tournament that is usually taken way too seriously. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in particular takes that aspect to another level with the top golfers and A-list celebrities looking to cash in again this week with $7.2 million on the line.
Event
Event Details: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Category: PGA
Date: February 9-12
Location: Pebble Beach Resort, Pebble Peach, California
Vaughn Taylor surprised the world when he won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am a year ago but he will have a tough time repeating with a strong cast of contenders at this year’s event. Familiarity should be a key factor with those that have played in this format before looking to thrive in this arena once again.
Past Five Winners
2016: Vaughn Taylor -17
2015: Brandt Snedeker -22
2014: Jimmy Walker -11
2013: Brandt Snedeker -19
2012: Phil Mickelson -17
What To Know About This Course
Taylor ranked 41st for Driving Distance and 38th for Driving Accuracy when he won here a year ago and the reality is that neither category should factor too heavily in to the overall outcome at this event. The average Driving Distance for the winners here over the last 10 years is just 29th while the average Driving Accuracy ranking is only 45th. The key stat to keep an eye on is Greens In Regulation as eight of the last 10 winners have ranked inside the top-six in that category. The golfers that thrive in terms of GIR and Putting statistics should have an edge over their competition this week.
The Field
Taylor’s slim chances of repeating as the winner at this event are illustrated by the fact that he is listed as a +10000 long shot to win this year’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am outright. Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth are listed as the sports betting co-favorites to win outright at +800 odds, followed by Jason Day and Justin Rose at +1200 odds. Phil Mickelson is expected to be in the mix as well as a +2000 option followed by the two-time AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am winner Brandt Snedeker at +2200 odds.
A Good Matchup To Bet: Brandt Snedeker over Jason Day
Day is still the top-ranked golfer in the world but considering his recent form it might be only a matter of time before he falls out of that top spot. Day has struggled at this course including a missed cut in his last appearance so this likely won’t be the week he gets back on track. Meanwhile, Snedeker has absolutely dominated at this course in past years including a pair of wins here in 2013 and 2015. Snedeker should be in line to put together another strong performance at this tournament and we like him to edge out Day in terms of the head-to-head sports betting matchup.
Top-Five Pick: Dustin Johnson
D.J. is the sports betting favorite to win this event for a reason as he has absolutely dominated at Pebble Beach over the years. His AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am form figures read 7-1-1-55-5-MC-2-4-41 and he should be focused after missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. Johnson has all of the tools to dominate at this year’s event and while the value isn’t incredible we think he is a lock to finish in the top-five at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week.
