Doug Baldwin broke out as a weapon for the Seattle Seahawks last season just in time. It was a contract year for the former undrafted free agent out of Stanford and Tuesday he got his reward, a four-year, $46 million deal with $24.25 million guaranteed.
Allen Hurns' deal set the market for Doug Baldwin, who tied for the league lead in TDs last year. $11.5 per year puts him in top 10 for WRs.

Baldwin collected a $7 million signing bonus Tuesday. Baldwin has been one of the most underrated players in the league since his rookie year where he caught 51 passes for 788 yards and four touchdowns. No longer. Baldwin’s first 1,000 yard season put him on the map and as quarterback Russell Wilson continues to improve, Baldwin’s impact and numbers should grow as well.
Last year Baldwin caught 78 passes for 1,069 yards and an NFL-leading 14 touchdowns. Baldwin also did work as the team’s punt and kick returner, though those days are probably over. I’d doubt the Seahawks would risk their $10 million a year pass catcher on special teams.
This is Baldwin’s third contract with the Seahawks who’ve been smart enough to never let him sniff the free agent market. After signing as a UDFA in 2011, the Seahawks gave him a $13 million extension in 2014.
Nassib is finally in the Browns’ fold
It’s taken way too long for this to happen, but Tuesday the Cleveland Browns announced they had finally reached an agreement with third round pick Carl Nassib out of Penn State. It’s a four-year deal with $3.229 million.

Nassib was a star on the defensive front for Penn State last season, recording 46 tackles, 19.5 for a loss and a nation-leading 15.5 touchdowns. He won the Lombardi Award, the Hendricks Award, the Lott IMPACT Trophy and was named the Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year.
Nassib was the last Browns rookie that was unsigned. It’s getting awful late in the offseason to still be dealing with rookie signings, especially under the current collective bargaining agreement.
San Diego Chargers No. 3 pick Joey Bosa is still unsigned as is New York Jets No. 20 pick Darron Lee and San Francisco 49ers No. 28 pick Joshua Garnett.
Cory Redding calls it a career
After a 13-year career spanning five different teams, defensive end Cory Redding has decided to retire. Last year he played a reserve role with the Arizona Cardinals, recording just four tackles, but he did score a touchdown on a fumble recovery.

Redding spent most of his career with the Detroit Lions who drafted him in the third round of the 2003 NFL draft. He moved into a starting spot in his second year in the league and remained in the starting line up when he moved to the Seahawks, the Baltimore Ravens, the Indianapolis Colts and the Cardinals.
Redding had a nice career, picking up $23.4 million in his 13 years including $3 million with the Cardinals last season.
Boykin charged with assault
Trevone Boykin’s arrest right before the Alamo Bowl not only cost him a start for TCU in that game, but could end up costing him his NFL shot as well. Boykin, who signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent, was officially charged with assault Tuesday. He’ll be arraigned Aug. 1.

Boykin was originally charged with assaulting a police officer, but that doesn’t appear to be the present charge. At TCU his senior season, Boykin completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 3,574 yards, 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He rushed for 612 yards and nine touchdowns.
Boykin and the Bexas County district attorney’s office are reportedly working on a plea deal.
Boykin is the second quarterback with ties to Seattle facing legal trouble this summer. Former backup quarterback Tavaris Jackson was arrested for pulling a gun on his wife last week.
Former Colts running back dies from self-inflicted gunshot
Zurlon Tipton is the latest casualty of gun violence related to NFL players. This offseason it seems to be an epidemic.
Tuesday Tipton accidentally shot himself in the stomach while taking a duffel bag out of his car at a car wash. There were two guns in the bag and the police reported that one of them went off by itself. Tipton was rushed to the hospital and died from his injury.

Tipton spent the last two seasons on the Colts roster. He didn’t play much, carrying the ball just 15 times over two years for 38 yards and catching 11 passes for 32 yards. He scored one touchdown in his NFL career.
