The St. Louis Blues will be out to win their first Stanley Cup in front of their hometown fans on Sunday, but today is a rest day. That’s great news for the banged up Boston Bruins. Matt Grzelcyk has missed the last three games because of a concussion, and Zdeno Chara and Noel Acciari could use an extra day off too. Chara and Acciari will certainly be on the ice in Game 6, and Grzelcyk is hoping to be cleared.

In a move that surprised no one, the NHL Player Safety Department decided to suspend Ivan Barbashev for his illegal check to the head of Boston’s Marcus Johansson. Barbashev escaped a suspension against San Jose after a high hit on Tomas Hertl in the Western Conference Finals, but he was not so fortunate this time around.

The Buffalo Sabres wanted to keep Jeff Skinner in the fold this offseason. Skinner was an unrestricted free agent, and the Sabres shelled out a lot of money to lock him up long-term. Skinner and the team agreed to an eight-year $72 million deal late last night. The general consensus is that the Sabres certainly overpaid to keep Skinner, but the team needed to prove to its fans that it was committed to winning after an eight-year playoff drought.

Steve Yzerman is looking to build the Detroit Red Wings into a contender just like he did with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Yzerman emphasizes the importance of building through the draft, and he seems to love Russian players. He drafted almost twice as many as any other team while in charge of Tampa Bay.
