Wilmer Flores of the New York Mets led our list of bargains last night with a homer and three RBI to set the stage for another lineup of top values on Friday with prices from FanDuel.
P – Jeremy Guthrie – Kansas City
The Royals host the Oakland A’s at 7:10 p.m. ET. Guthrie opened at $8,300 and could prove to be a bargain after a rough first star in which he was rocked by the Los Angeles Angels for four earned runs and six hits in seven innings of work. Oakland is a questionable team that is off to a better than expected start at 5-5. The price is right for us as we are bullish on the Royals.
C – Yadier Molina – St. Louis
The Cardinals host the Cincinnati Reds at 7:15 p.m. ET in a showdown of National League Central rivals and top contenders. Molina is the perfect choice for a high profile rivalry matchup. The veteran Redbird catcher opened at $3,000. Molina was off to a solid start with a .275 average and .364 on base percentage but had just one run and three RBI. We see the probability of much more for Molina.
1B – Garret Jones – New York Yankees
The Yankees are at the Tampa Bay Rays with a starting time of 6:10 p.m., ET. Jones opened at $2,200. Jones opened the season in horrible fashion with a .154 batting average, .214 on base percentage, and a .231 save percentage. Jones was yet to score a run or to drive one in. Tampa Bay right hander Nathan Karns could prove to be the cure to Jones’ misery. Karns has a career earned run average of 5.65 and had a 4.97 ERA to start the season. The Tampa Bay pitching staff ranked 17th for earned run average.
2B – Brandon Phillips – Cincinnati
Phillips is one of the reasons that we are optimistic about a Reds resurgence in 2015. Phillips was off to a promising start in which he was hitting .324 and looked to have the potential to be one of the most valuable shortstops in the game with plenty of hidden fantasy value. Phillips opened at $2,800 and has nine hits with three runs in his last four games. Against St. Louis in a rivalry matchup we expect the veteran to shine.
3B – Mike Moustakas – Kansas City
Moustakas has the look of a player that is ready for a breakout season. The Kansas City third baseman was hitting .382 with an on base percentage of .488 and an OPS of 1.105 with 10 runs scored, two home runs, and two RBI. The Moose has been a key contributor to KC’s hot start. The Royals World Series run of last year could prove to be the turning point for many of their young players including Moustakas. Moustakas opened at $3,100.
SS – Brandon Crawford – San Francisco
The Giants host the Arizona Diamondbacks with a starting time of 9:15 p.m. ET. Crawford opened at $2,300. Crawford has been off to a dreadful start that matches the sluggishness of the defending World Series champions. Crawford had a .167 batting average with a .268 on base percentage to start the season but has a great opportunity to bust out against an Arizona pitching staff that ranks 20th for earned run average.
OF – Mike Trout – Los Angeles Angels
The Angels are at the Houston Astros with a starting time of 7:10 p.m. ET. Trout was off to the type of start that matches the considerable hype surrounding him as the most coveted player in fantasy. Trout opened at $5,700 to match a batting average of .438 with a 1.094 OPS, seven runs, and four RBI. Trout is a ticking time bomb with just one home run.
Sleeper – Lorenzo Cain – Kansas City
The Kansas City outfielder was one of the key contributors to the strong start by KC. Cain is hitting .429 with a 1.226 OPS to go with 10 runs, 11 RBI, four doubles and two home runs. Cain has hit safely in 10 straight games with at least one run or RBI in eight of those games. Cain comes at a bargain price of $3,500.
