Last night in St Louis, Bellator 138 went down with a main event featuring Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock. Despite the gimmick nature of the main event, the main card featured several solid fights, led by Patricio “Pitbull’ Freire‘s Bellator Featherweight title defense over Daniel Weichel where he was almost stopped in the the opening round but came back to score the KO win early in the second round.
Freiere was the more aggressive fighter throughout the opening round, but Weichel landed a big punch that appeared to knock “Pitbull” out for a a second, but the champion was saved by the end of the round. Freire waited little time in the second round, hitting Weichel with a huge punch in the first thirty seconds that shut of his lights and caused the referee to step in for the save.
Former Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler got exactly the result he needed, as he defeated Derek Campos with a rear naked choke roughly two minutes into the opening round. Chandler was on a three fight losing streak, and what is more, the three losses were wars that saw Chandler take a lot of puishment, so a fast fight and finish were just what the doctor ordered.

Former Featherweight champion Daniel Straus also got back on the winning track as he stopped previously undefeated Henry Corrales with a guillotine choke deep into the second round. Strauss took it to Corrales from the opening bell, getting the takedowns and getting off the better strikes.
He had Corrales on rubbery legs in the first round, and he finished the round trying a guillotine. In the second round it was more of the same, as this time he caught Corrales in a guillotine as the opponent sat against the fence, and this time there was enough time left in the round to finish the fight.
The last main card fight was back to the gimmicks, as pro wrestler Bobby Lashley taking on Dan Charles. Lashley, a part time MMA fighter at best, spent less than 10 seconds on the feet before looking for a takedown. Lashley fought his typical fight executing control and taking no risks. For a man his size, his ground and pound is awful, and all he could seem to do is avoid standing in front of Charles. Bellator is likely to offer us a Bobby Lashley versus Kimbo Slice match in the near future, and that is sad for the entire sport.
