It’s that time of year again. It’s that time when you can release your inner Janet Gretzky and load up on Super Bowl props. Even those who are not football fans love proposition betting on the Super Bowl, which has reached a new level with unique wagering opportunities to keep things interesting even if the game itself fails to deliver the goods. Let’s take a look at the best of the best props for Super Bowl XLIX.
Most Valuable Player
OK, this traditional prop is one for football fans but still among the best to participate in. Alleged Deflategate conspirator Tom Brady, the quarterback of the New England Patriots, opened at 7/4 which is an absurdly poor betting value. Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was at 4/1 which also offers no value. How about Seattle defensive back Richard Sherman at 33/1? Now that’s a better value. Seattle kicker Steven Hauschka at 100/1 would be another excellent long shot selection.

There are, of course, a myriad of game props for both individual and team results. Total yards, first touchdowns, total touchdowns, etc. But from there things get extremely interesting. Let’s start with a highly creative and interesting prop section known as Cross Sport.
Cross Sport
Will Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch have more receiving yards than Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade will have in points? That is an even money -115 prop.
Or how about another even money matchup of the Miami Heat star Chris Bosh having more points than Marshawn Lynch will have in rushing attempts.
Hockey fans also have a stake in the Super Bowl with the question being if goaltender Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens will have more saves in his Sunday game than Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson will have in passing attempts. Even money is the bet.
Then there is Pittsburgh Penguins scoring ace Sidney Crosby being matched up for points in his Sunday game against Wilson for touchdown passes. It’s an even money choice.
Even soccer fans get in the action as Tom Brady’s total touchdown passes will matchup at even money against the total goals scored in the Arsenal vs. Aston Villa matchup. What, they actually do score in soccer? Brady looks good here at plus one half at even money.
Golf, you ask? Well, of course. And it has a future’s twist to it as well. What will be higher, Tiger Woods day one score at the Masters or New England’s Julian Edelman’s receiving yards? Edelman was a -150 chalk with Woods as a +120 dog. You’ll have to wait until April to cash your ticket on this one.

The National Anthem
Idina Menzel gets the honor this year and it offers fabulous wagering opportunities prior to kickoff.
How long will it take for Idina Menzel to sing the US National Anthem? The over under is two minutes. The odds are over -130 and under at -110.
Will Menzel forget a word to the National Anthem. No is a prohibitive favorite at -800 with yes a solid +500 dog.
Specials of Specials
Now back to football and the diabolical and detestable New England head coach Bill Belichick. The NFL’s anti-hero is the focus of some of the most perfect props in history.
First, the most important question of all, which is what color will The Hoodie rock for his hoodie on Super Sunday? The odds are grey -200, blue +1785, and red +700.
Next, will The Hoodie flash a smile on camera during the game? No opened at a solid -200 favorite with yes at +150. Belichick haters can load up on no and hope for the best. One does have to wonder about potential ambiguity on this bet and instant replay may be in order to settle disputes.
Brady Bunch
It’s obvious that Tom Brady’s wife and super model Gisele Bundchen wears the pants in the Brady household. The prop question is how many times will she grace the TV screen during the game? Over one and a half is the favorite at -135 with under at -105.
Taking Ownership
Which owner will get more face time on TV? New England’s Robert Kraft would seem to be a lock at -200 with Seattle’s reclusive Paul Allen at +150.
Half Time
Katy Perry gets half time show duties this year. What will be her hair color is the question to handicap. Black/brown was at +200, blue/green was at +300, pink/red was at +300, blonde was at +400, and purple was at +500.
You can also wager on the color of Gatorade, TV ratings, and if announcer Al Michaels will mention gambling odds during the telecast. All in all it makes for a fun day for football and non-football fans alike.
