BKB 10 Odds For March 24th – Later this March England’s Bare Knuckle Boxing League is back with fists swinging for BKB 10 in Liverpool.
Jumping out at you if you are a fan of MMA is the name of UFC and PRIDE veteran Phil Baroni. Baroni is the latest former MMA competitor to try his hand at bare knuckle. Already making the trek to England over the past couple of years have been MMA fighters Joe Riggs and Melvin Guillard, among others.
So what is attracting older MMA heads to the bare knuckle side of pugilism? The fact is that the BKB offers an “Old School” rawness that is missing from the canned style of MMA out there nowadays. People get there hands broken and their faces split open here, and that “rush” still appeals to some people. The fact that the BKB has made it into a regulated, overssen sport also has it’s appeal for those who are coming from a more organized sport.
Now Baroni is 41 years old and since 2010, he has gone 2-6 in organized MMA. He had his last UFC fight in that run and he also appeared in ONE FC and Bellator, so the “New York Bad Ass” still was competing at a high level. Baroni was always a slugger first and he has been training hard getting ready for this. This version of Baroni si still very stronng and he knows how to hit with power. He is going to be in the mix here, and at the end of the day, Baroni is likely going to be a better athlete overall than his opponent, Having a body builder type of musculature has never really been a huge help in a real fight and that rule seems to apply even more in BKB. Baroni is going to have to prove himself gainst an Eastern European fighter who is unlikely to be impressed ny his PRIDE appearanceas a decade ago.
Another reason to credit Baroni here is this – the paydays. The BKB is still in it’s nascent stages and none of the MMA guys who have gone over there have gone for the paydays, which are still modest. The NY “Bad Ass” got a whiff of the fighting goin gon at BKB and the old dog came up in him. Now we will see what the old dog has left.
Below are the current odds for eleven of the bouts set for Bare Knuckle Boxing 10. The fact that they have a piece of the Echo Arena in Liverpool as the event site is due to the had work put in by BKB organizers. Though the competitors may not be household names, the lines up for the event are much more competitive than the standard four figure favorites you get on most British boxing shows nowadays.
