This coming Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada British boxing star Amir Khan faces Devon Alexander in a bout at welterweight that psotions the winner for big money. Right now at the books, Khan is favored at (-225), with the comeback on Alexander at (+190).
The fight is getting a lot of attention, because the common thinking is that a win for Khan will set him up for a match with either Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather. Khan despite how far his actual boxing status has fallen once his glass head was exposed, still commands a large following and is the type of fighter who brings money to the table. Alexander, with a win, could also be in play for a big money fight, but he isn’t as appealing as Khan. Khan is a better technical boxer, but Alexander has twelve rounds to hit Khan, who rattles at the first shot.
In a battle of undefeated fighters, Keith Thurman (23-0) and Leonard Bundu (31-0-2) meet for the interim WBA World Welterweight title. Right now, Thurman is a heavy favorite at (-996) over Bundu, who pays back at (+659). Bundu is perhaps being underestimated here, as the Italian recently had two fights in the UK, a notoriously hard place to overcome the x-factors of travel, and he walked away with two wins and Frankie Gavin‘s European title.
In a fight labeled a Light Middleweight title eliminator bout by the IBF, undefeated Jermall Charlo (19-0) is a big favorite (-1625) over Leonard Bottai, who pays at (+925).
Beibut Shumenov returns as a Cruiserweight, after losing his last outing in April at light heavyweight to legendary Bernard Hopkins. Shumentov is a massive (-1625) favorite over Bobby Thomas Jr, who returns at (+925).
Right now, the books seem to be carrying those four lines on this nine fight card. With big names like Featherweight stud Abner Mares and the always controversial welterweight Victor Ortiz on the card both in scheduled 10 rounders, there is the potential for additional lines to pop up. Right now, none of the fights is posting an over/under as of yet.
