Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy promotions bring their “Los Angeles Fight Club” series back to the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, Calif. this Thursday night with a fight card that is set to air on Fox Sports 1. The featherweight main event is scheduled for 10 rounds and sees undefeated Jayson Velez (22-0-1) of Puerto Rico take on Daniel Ramirez (11-2) of Mexico in what De La Hoya is calling a classic contest for the Puerto Rican-Mexican rivalry.
Right now, the 27-year-old Velez is a big (-3000) favorite over Ramirez, who is paying back at (+1300). There is no over/under posted for the fight yet.
This is a bounce back fight for Velez, who is the prospect that Golden Boy is working around for this show. Velez was last seen fighting in November of 2014, when he fought Evgeny Gradovich to a draw in a failed bid to win the IBF World Featherweight title. Rodriguez is a hard working fighter with a crowd pleasing style, but he went 1-2 in his three fights in 2014, stumbling twice against improved competition. In his last outing, he was stopped in the sixth round of his bout against veteran Eric Hunter (18-3), so you can look for Velez to try and add to his 16 stoppage wins.
The televised co-main event showcases Carlos “The Solution” Morales (7-1-3, 2 KOs) of Los Angeles as he faces Emmanuel Gonzalez (14-1, 7 KOs) of the Bronx in an eight-round super bantamweight bout. To kick off the telecast, undefeated local favorite Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez (9-0, 9 KOs) is scheduled to fight Darryl Hayes (3-4, 1 KOs) of Houston, Texas, in a six-round super featherweight fight. Some of the bouts or opponents may change here at the last minute, but you can check back as we get closer to fight time this week to see if the additional televised fights have gotten lines up at the books.
De La Hoya restarted the Fight Club concept this past March, and Golden Boy has been steadily running shows featuring a lot of local talent from the west coast scene. For this show, De La Hoya himself will be part of a meet and greet where he will be signing autographs and taking pictures before the show. The live event features a handful of fights that won’t air, so if your in Los Angeles it may be worth attending.
