Miguel Cotto Big Favorite In Title Defense Over Daniel Geale

This coming Saturday, Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto defends his WBC World Middleweight title against Daniel Geale of Australia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  The fight is set to air on HBO in the United States, and the sport books are carrying lines already.  Cotto is the big name here and he gets to call a lot of the shots, including a 157 lb. catchweight for this fight in a weight class normally topped off at 160 lbs.  Cotto took the middleweight title from an aging Sergio Martinez, but he is out of his weight class.  Geale has been fighting at Middleweight a long time, and if Cotto gets by Geale, a showdown with Gennady Golovkin or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez could be next on tap for Cotto.

The undercard features several interesting names, including featherweight Wilfredo Vasquez Jr and Chinese heavyweight prospect Zhang Zhilei.  Check back later in the week to see if an over/under has been posted for the main event and also to see if more matches were added at the books.

Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions has scheduled their “Los Angeles Fight Club” event for this Thursday at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles.  The card features highly touted featherweight prospect Jayson Velez (22-0-1), who is coming off a draw with Evgeny Gradovich in his first attempt at winning a world title.  In this match, he is getting a tune-up as he outlcasses opponent Daniel Ramirez (11-2) .
