Boxing Odds: Sergio Martinez is favored to defeat Miguel Cotto in their fight at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday night. These two fighters come into this bout with a combined record of 89-6-1 and a combined 59 knockouts. It seems like Cotto has been around forever but he is only 33 years old while Martinez is actually older at 39. Martinez is the current middleweight champion but since this fight is in New York it will be Cotto getting much of the attention.
Here is a look at the bout and boxing predictions.
Miguel Cotto comes into this fight with a record of 38-4 with 31 knockouts while Martinez is 51-2-1 with 28 knockouts. Martinez is listed as a 2-1 favorite in boxing odds at the sportsbook.
Cotto has fought a lot at Madison Square Garden in New York as this will be his 10th main event. The magic is gone though as in his last fight at MSG he was beaten by Austin Trout. Cotto is looking to win a title in his fourth different weight class. Cotto has won titles in the junior-welterweight, welterweight and junior-middleweight divisions. He will be fighting for Martinez’s WBC and Ring middleweight titles.
Cotto believes that this fight on Saturday will go the distance and he is prepared for a long fight. “I train for 12 rounds of war. If he only trains for seven or eight, he is going to be in trouble after that because I am prepared to go the whole distance and to do whatever it takes to win.” Cotto said.
Both Cotto and Martinez are coming off wins as Cotto defeated Delvin Rodriguez by 3rd round TKO. Cotto had previously lost to Floyd Mayweather and Austin Trout. Martinez has won seven straight but his last fight was over a year ago as he defeated Martin Murray. After that fight Martinez had knee surgery.
Boxing Predictions
If Cotto is accurate then this fight has a good chance to go the distance. I will avoid picking one of the two fighters and simply take this fight to go over the rounds total.
