A whole bunch of UFC 213 fight card announcements were just made yesterday. While these additions include some really nice match ups, it’s still unclear who will headline the event. Here’s what the UFC 213 fight card looks like right now:
UFC 213 Fight Card
(c) Cody Garbrandt vs TJ Dillashaw
Bantamweight title fight. These two are coaching the current season of The Ultimate Fighter and have a very deep feud. There’s some great banter back-and-forth between the two, and I have a feeling their fight at UFC 213 will be one for the ages. Both Garbrandt and Dillashaw possess some of the best skills in MMA period.
(c) Amanda Nunes vs Valentina Shevchenko II
Women’s bantamweight title fight. This fight was just recently announced. I thought the UFC might put this as the headliner of the TUF Finale card (which takes place the Friday before UFC 213). That said, this is going to be awesome. Nunes is such an exciting fan-friendly athlete, and the first bout between her Schevchenko was closely contested. Both women are in their prime, so we should get a great fight.
Alistair Overeem vs Fabricio Werdum III
Also on the main card is this awesome heavyweight bout. Overeem and Werdum have met twice before, but now they’re top contenders in the division. Werdum is a former champ who obviously wants his belt back – only way to do that is to beat Overeem. Meanwhile, Overeem looked fantastic knocking out Mark Hunt, and could also be getting another title shot soon. Big implications here – especially if someone wins in impressive fashion.
Robbie Lawler vs Donald Cerrone
This fight right here is about the most badass fight you can make. These two welterweights are guaranteed action. However, both are coming off of big losses and wanting to make a statement. Lawler lost his welterweight title to Tyron Woodley around a year ago while Cerrone’s epic streak was cut short by Jorge Masvidal. Expect some violence in this fight.
Anthony Pettis vs Jim Miller
This seems like the perfect fight to either headline the prelims or start off the UFC 213 PPV. Either way, these two lightweights are at a serious cross roads. Miller is on the last leg of his career looking for one last chance for greatness. Pettis however has been struggling to regain the number one spot he held about two and a half years ago. A win means a lot to both men, so expect a barnburner of a fight.
UFC 213 Prelims:
Travis Browne vs Oleksiy Oliynyk
Thiago Santos vs Gerald Meerschaert
Daniel Omielanczuk vs Curtis Blaydes
Other UFC 213 Fight Card Announcements:
Like I said, there still is not a clear headliner to his fight card. As much as I would love to see Garbrandt/Dillashaw or Nunes/Shevchenko get the exposure, I don’t see it happening. UFC 213 is likely to be one of the biggest cards of the year. I expect the UFC is going to try and book three title fights for UFC 213 much like they did at UFC 205.
Who will that be? I still have no idea. There are rumors of Tony Ferguson vs Nate Diaz for an interim lightweight title, but there are also rumors of Tyron Woodley being involved.
Either way – this card is stacked and I’m very excited. Be sure to check out GetMoreSports for more MMA related content!
