Browns News: Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry Forced to Change Cleats at Halftime

The Browns just can’t catch a break. Halfway through Sunday’s 19-24 loss to the Denver Broncos, receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry were told by NFL officials to change their cleats, or else they would basically be kicked out of the game.

The NFL rulebook states that players can wear cleats that are “black, white, or any constitutional team color,” or a combination of any of those colors. Beckham was wearing Joker-themed cleats and while Landry was wearing orange, the main color of his cleats were gold.

Beckham has been fined repeatedly this season for uniform violations, including wearing a Richard Mille watch in the season opener and not wearing pants that covered his knees on Oct. 13.

Beckham’s frustrations might be boiling over in Cleveland.  He came off the field against the Broncos saying, “I can’t get the ball to save my life,” one of the few instances he’s made such a direct remark about his touches. However, it’s also now the second consecutive week he’s complained about his targets.

Landry expressed his confusion on the NFL’s ultimatum saying:

When we went up to the Nike headquarters to start game-planning for throughout the season, and our uniforms and things like that, these things get cleared by the league before Nike can start processing the shoe. So Nike processed the shoe and thinking, I guess, they got the green light from the NFL, so I didn’t see it as being a problem or a distraction to anybody. I’m just trying to play football.”

Whatever cleats they’ve been wearing, the Browns have been a far cry from the Super Bowl contenders so many thought they would be. At 2-6 with only 8 games left to play, their season is already on life support.
