The Charlotte Observer is reporting that Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was injured in a car accident on the Church Street bridge over I-277 around 12:30 today. The Observer reports that Newton was taken by ambulance to a hospital 20 minutes later. Photos of the scene show Newton strapped to gourney with his head secured to a board.
In a statement released by the Panthers, the team said, “We are closely monitoring the situation of a car wreck involving Cam Newton. We will have more information at an appropriate time.”
According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Newton did not receive any life-threatening injuries during the crash and was conscious when he entered the ambulance.
