The Camping World Truck Series has reached the mid way mark of the 2016 season. This year has been an exciting campaign that has pitted drivers with all different experience levels against one another. Rookies have shown amazing promise and veterans are poised to be a deciding factor in the Camping World Truck Series Chase.
Today I will be reviewing the drivers that sit in the sixth through tenth positions in the point standings and give some insight on how they have performed during the first half of the season to earn their spots. I would also like to note once again, that only Camping World Truck Series full-time drivers are eligible for points. NASCAR’s Sprint Cup drivers and Xfinity Series drivers that compete in this series will not be listed.
Sitting sixth in the Camping World Truck Series points standings is Tyler Reddick. Another Brad Keselowski Racing prodigy has been as consistent as his teammate Daniel Hemric, who is in fourth. Reddick has powered his #29 Cooper Standard Ford to two top five’s and three top ten’s on the 2016 season.
He has been on a bit of a roll with both top five’s coming over the the last two racing weekends. The main reason for the steady driver’s placement in the point standing has been his ability to stay clear of the wrecks and mechanical breakdowns. Reddick has managed to finish every event he has competed in this season.
Johnny Sauter sits seventh in the Camping world Truck Series points position. The driver of the #21 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet has scored points from all different angles in 2016. Sauter cemented his way into the Chase in the very first contest of the year. The aggressive racer drove on to victory at Daytona International speedway in mid February. Since that crowning achievement, he has gathered four other top five’s and four top ten’s.
Johnny Sauter also found himself atop the leader board last week after qualifying and earned his first Coors Light Pole Award in 2016. Crew chief Joe shear Jr. has been spot on with Sauter’s racing set-ups and kept him out of trouble. He is averaging a 7.8 starting position and has a 12.4 average finish. I fully expect the experienced driver to be a major force in the later half of the season.
Spencer Gallagher, a GMS Racing teammate of Johnny Sauter, finds himself in eighth. The Las Vegas native has quietly went about his business in the Camping World Truck Series events. Gallagher has yet to guide his #23 Allegeiant Chevrolet to five top ten finishes in seven races. He has yet to break the top five in any contest but runs up front and positions himself for plenty of opportunities for that. Gallagher has finished every race in 2016 and averages a 12.3 finishing position. A win could go along way for this young talent, vaulting him instantly into the Chase where he can capitalize on his consistency
Ninth place in the Camping world Truck Series belongs to Ben Kennedy. Another GMS Racing driver that uses consistency to move up the points ladder. Kennedy has guided his #33 Wheelwell Chevrolet to five top ten finishes in 2016. He is yet to have cracked the top five in any race but only has one did not finish on the season. Like GMS Racing teammate Spencer Gallagher, Kennedy would really benefit from a trip to victory lane before the Chase starts. The steady driver is averaging a 13.7 starting position and finishing with some improvement at 12.7.
Rounding out the top ten is Ryan Truex. The part time driver and younger brother of Sprint Cup mainstay Martin Truex Jr. has taken advantage of his opportunities when presented with them. Truex has six starts in the 2016 Camping World Truck Series season and has recorded four top ten’s. The Hattori Racing stand-out also has captured a top five finish and has kept out of trouble in 2016. Given the right opportunities, Truex could find himself moving up in the points for the final push of the season.
