The Calgary Stampeders continued to roll, the Edmonton Eskimos were shocked in overtime and the Toronto Argonauts may have found a long term solution at the quarterback position in week 13 of the CFL season. With September coming to a close, the push for the playoffs is about to heat up down the final stretch beginning this week. Here is your CFL betting rundown for week 14.
Friday September 23
Toronto Argonauts @ Ottawa Redblacks
CFL Betting Odds: Ottawa -4
Dan LeFevour has actually provided Toronto with an upgrade from Ricky Ray over the past couple of weeks, completing 46-of-70 passes for 600 yards and five touchdowns while leading the team to a 1-1 record. LeFevour could help mask a lot of the Argonauts’ deficiencies and they will lean on him to help put them over the top in an absolutely crucial game against the Redblacks this week. Ottawa currently leads Toronto by one point in the East standings with a game in hand. The Redblacks will certainly be a tough beat at home, but LeFevour should help the Argos to stay close and cover on the road. Toronto has a winning record on the road this season compared to being just 2-5 at home.
Pick: Toronto +4
Friday September 23
BC Lions @ Edmonton Eskimos
CFL Betting Odds: Edmonton -1.5
The Lions are coming off their bye week and looking to make a statement on the road against an Edmonton team that has shown flashes but has had trouble against the tougher opponents on its schedule. The Eskimos are just 3-4 at home this season and they are coming off a disappointing overtime loss to Saskatchewan that could have some lingering effects. BC will try to keep the pressure on Calgary at the top of the West standings with a win this week and after using the bye to prepare for this matchup it won’t be a surprise when they win and cover.
B.C. has been a very reliable road bet this season as they have won five of their six away games. It’s a bit surprising that they are just 3-2 at home this year but at any rate, don’t shy away from betting them in this spot just because they’re on the road.
Pick: BC +1.5
Saturday September 24
Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ Calgary Stampeders
CFL Betting Odds: Calgary -8
The Stampeders just kept on rolling last week with a 48-23 win over Ottawa to improve to 6-0 at home this season, but they will face a tough test this week against a Winnipeg side that keeps finding ways to win games. The Blue Bombers will lean on their defense hoping they can keep Bo Levi Mitchell and the Calgary offense in check, while Matt Nichols hopes to score just enough points to find a way to win. Winnipeg will be in tough to win this game outright but they should be able to cover getting eight points in what projects to be a close game. Keep in mind that the Blue Bombers have actually been a better bet away from home than playing in front of their own audience. They are just 3-3 at home compared to 5-1 on the road.
Pick: Winnipeg +8
Saturday September 24
Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ Saskatchewan Roughriders
CFL Betting Odds: Hamilton -4.5
The Roughriders are coming off a big overtime win over Edmonton and will look to carry over the momentum from that victory when they host Hamilton this week. They are not a team that’s had much momentum this season as that win was just their second of the season. They have been the worst defensive and offensive team in the league as their 387 points allowed are by far the most in the CFL while their 231 points scored are the fewest.
It will be another tough test for a Saskatchewan side that is still just 2-10 on the season but they are getting 4.5 points as a home underdog in a game that they should be able to keep close. The Tiger-Cats will not make the mistake of overlooking the Roughriders potential for an upset but even if Hamilton wins there is a good chance that Saskatchewan keeps this game close and covers at home.
Pick: Saskatchewan +4.5
