Week 15 of the CFL season offered up a couple of surprises with the Edmonton Eskimos finding a way to hand the Winnipeg Blue Bombers their second consecutive loss while the Montreal Alouettes earned a big win over the Toronto Argonauts with a new head coach on their sideline. Week 16 should provide plenty of drama as well with the focus on whether or not a pair of playoff contenders could bounce back at home this week with Winnipeg and the Ottawa Redblacks looking to get back in the win column. Here is your CFL betting rundown for Week 16 along with betting picks for each and every game on the schedule.
Friday October 7
Saskatchewan Roughriders @ Ottawa Redblacks
CFL Betting Odds: Ottawa -6.5
The Redblacks fell just short in a 40-33 loss to the BC Lions on the road last week but there are a number of positives to take from that game moving forward to this week’s home date with Saskatchewan. Trevor Harris threw for 485 yards and two touchdowns in that loss while Chris Williams and Ernest Jackson combined for 277 receiving yards and a score. The Roughriders have shown progress over the past few weeks and should be rested coming off a bye week, but as long as the Redblacks offense continues to perform at a high level they should be able to win and cover at home. Look for the Roughriders to put forth a valiant effort but the Redblacks will pull away in the second half.
Pick: Ottawa -6.5
Saturday October 8
BC Lions @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers
CFL Betting Odds: Winnipeg -1.5
The Blue Bombers are suddenly reeling following back-to-back losses to Calgary and Edmonton, and it won’t get much easier for them this week with the Lions in town. Jonathon Jennings threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80-percent of his passes in BC’s win over Ottawa, so he will provide another tough test for a Winnipeg defense that has struggled over the past couple of weeks. The Blue Bombers own a 3-4 record at home so far this season, so the Lions won’t be intimidated as they look to improve on their 5-2 record on the road so far this season. This is one of those spots where home-field advantage won’t really provide a huge edge, so take the road team in this spot.
Pick: BC +1.5
Monday October 10
Edmonton Eskimos @ Montreal Alouettes
CFL Betting Odds: Edmonton -3
Rakeem Cato threw a career-high four touchdown passes in Montreal’s 38-11 win over the Toronto Argonauts last week in Jacques Chapdelaine’s debut as head coach. It was a nice moment for a franchise that has been an absolute disaster so far this season, but it’s going to be hard for the Alouettes to build on that victory with Edmonton in town this week. John White is coming off an impressive 104-yard, two-touchdown performance in last week’s 40-26 win over Winnipeg and the Eskimos will once again lean on the ground and pound approach as they attempt to grind out a win in Montreal on Monday night. The Als had their honeymoon last week but they should come back to reality in this spot. Lay the field goal with the Eskimos as they should end up covering that number.
Pick: Edmonton -3
Monday October 10
Calgary Stampeders @ Toronto Argonauts
CFL Betting Odds: Calgary -9
The Stampeders haven’t lost a game since week one, posting a 12-0-1 record over the last 14 weeks of football. That undefeated streak will not end in Toronto on Thanksgiving Monday, so the only question is how close will the Argonauts be able to keep this game? Last week, Toronto was absolutely buried by a Montreal team that owns the worst record in the East division and now they are going to go up against the best in the CFL. Bo Levi Mitchell and company should be able to pad their stats on Monday as they celebrate Thanksgiving with a double-digit win over the Argonauts. This is a mismatch at this point and the betting line should tell you plenty as the home team is a massive nine-point underdog. Lay the points with Calgary even though it’s a big spread they have to cover on the road.
Pick: Calgary -9
