CFL Betting: Week 3 Preview & Picks

CFL

Week 3 of the CFL regular season will kick off on Thursday. Although it’s early, it looks like the Calgary Stampeders – once again – are the team to beat. They’ve outscored opponents 69-21 so far.

This week’s bye goes to the winless Toronto Argonauts, who need it after a big loss to Calgary in a Grey Cup rematch. Quarterback Ricky Ray was injured, so the week off is a huge help to Toronto. He looks like he’ll be out a while.

Ottawa RedBlacks @ Calgary Stampeders

Odds: Stampeders -7.5

The RedBlacks (1-0) opened up their season with a bang after a bye in Week 1, routing Saskatchewan 40-17 at home. Trevor Harris was 26-of-36 for 345 yards, two touchdowns and a pick, while William Powell ran 19 times for 94 yards for the RedBlacks. Ottawa forced four turnovers as well as they were great on both sides of the ball. The Stampeders (2-0) looked like a team on a mission as they romped to a 41-7 win over Toronto, who beat Calgary in last season’s Grey Cup. Bo Levi Mitchell was 20-of-22 for 324 yards and three touchdowns. Don Jackson had nine carries for 123 yards, and Eric Rogers made five catches for 131 yards and a pair of scores for the Stampeders, who were dominant on both sides of the ball. Calgary are 5-2-2 SU and 5-4 Ats in nine meetings with the Redblacks, with nine games going over the posted total. Roll with the Stampeders at home.

Pick: Stampeders -7.5

Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Odds: Tiger-Cats -4.5

The Blue Bombers (1-1) thrashed Montreal 56-10 on the road. Chris Streveler went 22-of-28 for 246 yards and three touchdowns, and ran ten times for 98 yards and a score. The Tiger-Cats (1-1) surprised Edmonton 38-21 on the road as Jeremiah Masoli was 19-of-29 for 332 yards, three touchdowns and a pick. Masoli also ran seven times for 59 yards, while Mercer Timmis added 133 yards and a pair of scores on 17 carries for the Tiger-Cats, who also played very well defensively. The Tiger-Cats are 6-4 SU and ATS in their last ten against the Blue Bombers, and eight have come in under the posted total. Take Hamilton to barely cover at home.

Pick: Tiger-Cats -4.5

British Columbia Lions @ Edmonton Eskimos

Odds: Eskimos -6.5

The Lions (1-0) had their bye last week after beating Montreal 22-10 in Week 1. The Eskimos could not get going in their loss to Hamilton. Mike Reilly was 20-of-30 for 286 yards, a pair of touchdowns and an interception as the Edmonton offense looked sluggish from the outset. The Eskimos are 8-2 SU and 6-4 ATS in their last ten against the Lions with half of the games going under the total, The Eskimos will bounce back on their home turf.

Pick: Eskimos -6.5

Montreal Alouettes @ Saskatchewan Roughriders

CFL Odds: Roughriders -10

The Alouettes (0-2) looked abysmal in their loss to Winnipeg as Drew Willy was 16-of-25 for 111 yards and a touchdown. Tyrell Sutton had four carries for 53 yards, but as usual, Montreal had to abandon the ground game. Brandon Bridge replaced Zach Collaros and went 13-of-22 for 145 yards and a pick in Saskatchewan’s loss in Ottawa. Bridges and Collaros combined for three interceptions. These two have split their last ten meetings with Montreal covering six times. However, this Montreal team is really bad offensively and Saskatchewan will take advantage of that.

Pick: Roughriders -10
