Anybody that jumped on the Calgary Stampeders in DFS formats last week were rewarded with some monster CFL fantasy numbers from their 60-1 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. That was one of the most eye-popping results that we’ve seen in a football game in either the CFL or NFL in a long time. Those that didn’t will likely be strongly considering jumping on the Edmonton Eskimos this week. The winless Tiger-Cats are set to visit Edmonton this week and it could be another lopsided affair with Mike Reilly looking to build on his strong start to the season. Here is our DFS Breakdown for Week 7 of the CFL season.
Quarterbacks
Mike Reilly @ Edmonton, $11,000
After watching the Stampeders put up 60 points against Hamilton in a lopsided win last week, it only makes sense that CFL fans will be jumping on Reilly in fantasy formats this week. The Tiger-Cats won’t be as bad as they were against Calgary but that doesn’t mean Reilly won’t deliver an impressive fantasy performance. On the season, the Tiger-Cats have given up 201 points, which is by far more than any other team in the season. The Ti-Cats are the only team in the league that have given up more than 200 points.
Bo Levi Mitchell @ Toronto, $10,500
Mitchell threw for only 197 yards and a touchdown before he left the Stampeders win over Hamilton. That left DFS users disappointed. Toronto should provide a tougher challenge this week so Mitchell likely won’t be leaving this game early.
Travis Lulay vs. Saskatchewan, $10,000
Lulay has been impressive as the Lions starter in place of the injured Jonathon Jennings. Lulay has thrown for 1,099 yards and seven touchdowns in three starts while guiding BC to a 2-1 record. The Roughriders defense will be in tough to slow him down this week.
Ricky Ray vs. Calgary, $9,500
Ray will be forced to air it out as the Argonauts attempt to keep up with a dangerous Calgary offense and that should translate to a strong fantasy performance. Ray has thrown for a CFL-best 2,282 yards with nine touchdowns this season so look for him to deliver again this week.
Zach Collaros @ Edmonton, $7,800
Collaros and the Hamilton offense have underachieved big time this season but are they really as bad as they have looked? Tempers flared at practice this week after hitting rock bottom in last week’s loss to Edmonton. Can the Tiger-Cats begin a potential turnaround this week? Collaros will need to be at his best in order to give Hamilton a chance in this one.
Running Backs
Jeremiah Johnson vs. Saskatchewan, $7,900
Johnson has been a bright spot for BC and that should continue with Lulay under center when they host Saskatchewan this week. Johnson’s 5.9 yards per carry is the best mark among the top-seven rushers in the CFL so there is no reason to expect him to slow down this week.
Jerome Messam @ Toronto, $7,600
Messam leads the CFL with 414 yards while registering five rushing touchdowns through six games. The top CFL fantasy running back is $300 cheaper than Johnson so you don’t have to break the bank to lock him in against the Argonauts.
Andrew Harris @ Ottawa, $7,600
Harris will get his touches against the Redblacks defense this week as he looks to build off an impressive start to the season. Harris has averaged 4.1 yards per carry while rushing for 240 yards and four touchdowns. Another big performance this week could help him climb past Montreal’s Tyrell Sutton and Saskatchewan’s Cameron Marshall on the CFL’s rushing yards leaderboard.
Wide Receivers
Brandon Zylstra vs. Hamilton, $9,300
The guys at DraftKings are fully aware that DFS players will be looking to capitalize on Edmonton’s favorable matchup with Hamilton. It’s no surprise that the two most expensive wide receiver options on the board belong to the Eskimos. Zylstra ranks third in the CFL in receiving yards and sixth in receptions this season so he should be a strong pick.
Adarius Bowman vs. Hamilton, $9,200
Bowman has 14 catches for 153 yards in three games for Edmonton. It’s only a matter of time before he starts putting up big numbers and a matchup against the Hamilton defense could be the perfect opportunity. That said, Bowman’s price tag is a little high this week so it might make sense to stick with Zylstra, whose healthy has helped him as the more productive receiver early on this season.
Greg Ellingson vs. Winnipeg, $9,000
Ellingson is off to a terrific start as he leads the CFL with 39 receptions for a league-leading 643 yards and three touchdowns through six games. Ellingson isn’t going to slow down this week at home against Winnipeg so it will make sense to have him in your lineup this week.
Emmanuel Arceneaux vs. Saskatchewan, $8,300
Arceneaux has 30 catches for 279 yards and three touchdowns through six games this season while working with both Jennings and Lulay. The Lions will lean on him again this week when they host the Roughriders. It will be interesting to see if Arceneaux can deliver a performance that makes him worth the considerable price tag in DFS competitions.
Defense/Special Teams
Eskimos vs. Hamilton, $5,200
Edmonton’s defense has allowed the fewest touchdowns in the CFL so far this season and now they get a favorable matchup against the slumping Tiger-Cats at home.
Stampeders @ Toronto, $5,100
Calgary is tied with Edmonton for the fewest touchdowns allowed thanks to a defense that has registered the second-most sacks in the CFL so far this season. The Stampeders will have a tougher time against Toronto this week but should be able to deliver another quality performance if they can continue to get to the quarterback.
Lions vs. Saskatchewan, $4,800
BC’s defense ranks fifth in the CFL in sacks and third in interceptions so far this season. A home date with the Roughriders should provide a favorable matchup for them to add to those numbers this week.
Blue Bombers @ Ottawa, $4,700
Winnipeg’s defense leads the CFL with nine interceptions so far this season. The Blue Bombers need to cut down on their touchdowns allowed but as long as they continue to force turnovers they should deliver decent fantasy scores in DFS formats.
