CFL Odds: The Saskatchewan Roughriders will try and repeat as Grey Cup champions in 2014. They won’t begin the season as the top choice in CFL betting odds as the British Columbia Lions are the favorites but the team is expected to be right with the Lions and the Calgary Stampeders for the top record this season. The team has one of the top quarterbacks in the league in Darian Durant and they have a stingy defense. The concern this year is that they will be without Kory Sheets and Weston Dressler. Let’s look at the 2014 Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Durant Missing Main Weapons
Last year was a great one for Durant as he had his best season ever as he threw for 4,154 passing yards, and 31 touchdowns. He got a lot of help from Sheets who was second in the league in rushing with 1,598 yards. He won’t get help from Sheets at the beginning of this season as Sheets will be trying to make the Oakland Raiders. If he fails with the Raiders he could return to the Roughriders sometime in September. The team will also be missing Weston Dressler who is trying to make it with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Team Notes
The Roughriders lost S Craig Butler, linebackers Abraham Kromah and Graig Newman, and wide receiver Kierre Johnson, running back Jock Sanders, and QB Drew Willy in free agency. There is no question that the Saskatchewan Roughriders lost a lot more than they gained heading into this season. The good news is that most of the top players on defense return from a unit that led the league in fewest points allowed.
