CFL Odds – Toronto Argonauts Favored on Thursday Night vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

CFL Odds:  The season opener in the CFL takes place on Thursday night as the Toronto Argonauts visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Toronto Argonauts are 5-point favorites with the total listed at 53.5.  The Toronto Argonauts have owned this series of late, winning 7 of the last eight meetings.  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers do have a new head coach and a new quarterback but they still may not have enough to handle the Toronto Argonauts.

Here is a look at the matchup and CFL predictions.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers have to rely on Defense

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are going to have to win with defense as they don’t have a ton of offensive talent. They are relying upon a quarterback in Drew Willy who has very little experience.  And it is even worse behind Willy as the backups are Brian Brohm and Robert Marve.  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers got a scare earlier this week when starting center Steve Morley missed practice but head coach Mike O’Shea said that he expected Morley to play on Thursday.

Winnipeg defensive lineman Jason Vega said that he expects the defense to play well on Thursday and the goal is to give up no points. “That we give up nothing,” he said. “That’s what we’re going to aim to do every single week. That we give up zero points, and if it’s not zero then it’s one, two or three… but ultimately we want to win.”

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers also have problems at running back as neither Will Ford nor Nic Grigsby is fully healthy. “Because Nic was banged up, we’re still trying to see how he is at the last possible minute,” O’Shea said. “That’s why Will’s on the reserve, so we’ll be ready to go if we have to go that way.”

Game Trends

This series has been all Toronto Argonauts of late as they have won the last three and seven of the last eight. They are

3-0-1 against the CFL odds in the last 4 meetings in Winnipeg. The Under is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings in Winnipeg.

CFL Predictions

The Toronto Argonauts should win a low scoring game on Thursday night.
