CFL Betting Odds: The Edmonton Eskimos are expected to be vastly improved after they went just 4-14 last season. The team has a new coach in Chris Jones, a good quarterback in Mike Reilly and a lot of optimism heading into the 2014 season. Let’s take a look at this year’s team, the 2014 Edmonton Eskimos schedule and CFL picks.
Mike Reilly
Even though the Edmonton Eskimos won just four games a year ago, they got good play out of quarterback Mike Reilly. He threw for 4,207 passing yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 709 yards. He did throw 18 interceptions but overall he played really well for a poor team. He is growing into becoming the face of the franchise. He didn’t get much attention in college at Central Washington University so this is a new experience for him at Edmonton. “It’s another step in the process of learning to become hopefully a franchise guy, where you learn how much you can take on during the season and in the offseason,” he said. “You get asked to do a ton of stuff, so some things you have to say no to. The most important thing is putting a good product on the field.”
Team Notes
The Edmonton Eskimos added cornerback Patrick Watkins in free agency and they also picked up offensive linemen Justin Sorensen and Andrew Jones, and receiver Akeem Foster. The Edmonton Eskimos will have a healthy J.C. Sheritt this season which should be a big boost to their defense as Sheritt is considered the top linebacker in the league.
Last year’s Edmonton Eskimos team had Reilly and not much else. This year the team will play a much more exciting style of football under Jones and they will be improved.
