CFL Odds: The Toronto Argonauts are counting on a healthy Ricky Ray to lead them to success in 2014. Ray is arguably the top quarterback in the CFL but he has not always been healthy. Now that Anthony Calvillo has retired, Ray is the most successful quarterback in the league as he has thrown for more than 250 career TD passes and won multiple Grey Cup titles. Ray missed seven games last year and the team was not the same without him. Here is a look at the 2014 Toronto Argonauts including their schedule and CFL picks.
Ricky Ray
The Toronto Argonauts simply have to keep Ray healthy if they are to win this season. Ray was simply great when he was on the field as he completed 77 percent of his passes and had a 21:2 TD to interception ratio. They no longer have a capable backup with Zach Collaros now with Hamilton. The team doesn’t have much of a running game so Ray has to lead this offense on a weekly basis. It doesn’t help that the team lost veteran offensive lineman Joe Eppele in the expansion draft.
Team Notes
Not only did the team lose Collaros and Eppele, they also lost defensive back Patrick Watkins who is an excellent cornerback. The team did add former Montreal Alouettes linebacker Shea Emry. They also added running back Anthony Coombs in the draft. The Toronto Argonauts were great last year inside the red zone but getting there was sometimes a problem as they were just eight in the league in total offense and last in rushing yards.
