CFL Betting Odds: The Montreal Alouettes have high hopes heading into 2014 but they need quarterback Troy Smith to prove he is the worthy successor to Anthony Calvillo. Smith played well down the stretch a year ago and led the Montreal Alouettes to the playoffs but replacing a legend is never easy and this will be the first full season at the helm for Smith. Let’s take a look at the 2014 Montreal Alouettes and CFL predictions.
Montreal Alouettes Offense Adds Chad Johnson
The Montreal Alouettes will be getting some attention this season simply because they have former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson. He brings attention to himself and his team wherever he goes so the spotlight will be on the Montreal Alouettes early in the season. Smith will have a number of targets to throw to including Johnson, Jamel Richardson, and Duron Carter who is the son of NFL Hall of Famer Chris Carter.
Team Notes
The Montreal Alouettes lost three players to the Ottawa Redblacks in the expansion draft. The biggest loss was FB Patrick Lavoie who played really well in his two years in Montreal. The team also lost Shea Emry who went to Toronto in free agency. It also doesn’t help that both Andrew Woodruff and Scott Flory retired so the offensive line has some issues. The defense was not an issue last year as the Montreal Alouettes were first in fewest yards allowed per game and first in takeaways with 56.
CFL Predictions
The Montreal Alouettes will have a new head coach this season in Tom Higgins and he has a good background having won the Grey Cup in the past and been named CFL coach of the year. The team should be improved in 2014 and finish with a winning record and make the playoffs.
