If a team is going to pry Melvin Gordon away from the Los Angeles Chargers, it’ll take a first round pick and then some. The report Tuesday night is the Chargers have priced Gordon at a first and a fifth to teams inquiring about his services.
That would be a tough deal to make for any trade partner, especially since Gordon has made it clear (at least so far) that he won’t play this season without a new contract. He’s reportedly already turned down $10 million a year from Los Angeles, which is looking more and more like a mistake. Gordon is apparently looking at $13 million a season.

This is actually good news for the running back. If the Chargers value him that much, it seems like they should have little problem adding a few stacks to the pile of cash they’ve already offered him. Unfortunately, at least publicly, the team has said they’re done dealing with Gordon in 2019. They’ve also invited him to seek a trade on his own.
Last year Gordon rushed for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. He caught 50 passes for 490 yards and four touchdowns.
Chargers extend Mike Pouncey through 2020
With all the money Los Angeles is saving on Gordon, they decided to use some of it to lock up their center for at least one more season. The team reached a one-year, $9 million extension with Mike Pouncey Tuesday.

“From day one, Mike has been everything we thought he’d be and more,” Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said on the team’s official site. “He’s an unquestioned leader, both in the locker room and on the field, who has earned the respect of teammates and coaches alike. His relentless work ethic — there have been times where we’ve had to fight to keep him off the practice field — and toughness are contagious. Mike’s dependability is invaluable, and we’re excited to have secured our Pro Bowl center through the 2020 season.”
Pouncey joined L.A. as a free agent last season after seven years with the Miami Dolphins.
