Chiefs News: Patrick Mahomes MRI Reveals Positive News

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that best-case scenario news has been received regarding Patrick Mahomes’ injured knee. Truly, when we wrote the post this morning we were expecting the worst. Now, it seems like for the time being; there’s a possibility that NFL fans and the Kansas City Chiefs escaped catastrophe with the league’s brightest young star.

Here’s what Schefter tweeted on Friday afternoon. While information was given to Schefter from a league source, it seems like we could see Mahomes again in about a month. Still, until a player returns to the field or all second opinions are gathered; situations like this are fluid. Moreover, don’t expect Kansas City to rush Mahomes back into action.

Following the release of the positive MRI news, head coach Andy Reid weighed in on the situation. If he sounds a bit grumpy, consider the value of the player he just lost to a senseless injury.

“I just know what I know: The kid had the MRI, and we don’t have all the information,” Reid said. “That is what I can give you. I am trying to tell you what is real. Once I get all the information, we will give you everything that kind of happened and what’s going on here … the whole deal. We don’t hide that.”

In addition, Reid has coached in the NFL for over 20 years. Remember, he was the head coach when Donovan McNabb suffered a few similar injuries that caused him to miss chunks of Philadelphia Eagles’ seasons during when they were a contender. Now, Reid says it’s a next man up mentality.

“There’s no looking back. Everything is looking forward in this league. Very seldom can you look back, and those that do are normally out of the league. When you are in it, you are only as good as your next game.”

Finally, I’m just happy we head into the weekend knowing that by the holidays; we could see Mahomes on the field again. Watching him play takes me back to the days of yore, when Brett Favre was firing touchdowns. Players that take you back to when you were a kid are far and few between, and in that way they’re special.

Get well soon, Pat.
