Chiefs Rumors: Patrick Mahomes Could Receive $200M ‘Megadeal’ Says Adam Schefter

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

To no surprise, Patrick Mahomes is going to get ‘the big one’. Indeed, we are talking about the contract extension to trump all football contract extensions.

On Thursday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter appeared on Get Up; where he talked about the initial details of this. Moreover, the initial framework of a Mahomes extension could be ‘in excess of $200 million’ this offseason according to Schefter.

The referenced clip is below, take a look and we will digest what Schefter says about Mahomes’ soon to be large payday.

Schefter goes into a little more detail for us on ESPN:

“After this year ends, he’s eligible to sign his first long-term deal. He is expected at some point in the offseason to get a new deal done that I would think, just guessing; a deal in excess of $200 million dollars over the course of that contract. So I would say five years, $40-plus million dollars a year.”

While the exact origin of those terms aren’t disclosed, we have all heard about Schefter’s sources. Without question, they’re the best in the business. Surely, someone within the Kansas City organization has pulled Schefter aside to say that Mahomes is going to be a very rich man soon. Then, Schefter felt comfortable enough to run with it on television.

Now, don’t go comparing him to Troy Aikman or anything (we are kidding); but Mahomes has earned this hefty payday thus far. For instance – just look at what Mahomes has 20 games in – it’s historic.

Finally, I can’t remember a player I like turning on the television more to watch on a Sunday than Mahomes since I was a kid watching Brett Favre. Mahomes just has that added dimension of he can and will throw it into the end-zone to beat you from anywhere on the field. There’s an aspect of danger with every throw – typical gunslinger – and Mahomes is better at getting away with it than anyone else in the business.

In closing, Mahomes also got a 99 overall rating in Madden 2019; which happens to be a huge deal.

However, we think signing the first $200M contract in football history might take the top spot over this.
