Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview 06/17/18

The Cincinnati Reds will be taking on their divisional rival Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. The matchup begins at 1:35 p.m. ET and you can catch it on both ATPT and FSOH.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Odds

Pittsburgh (-130) is hosting this game as the favorite over Cincinnati (+120) and oddsmakers have the Over/Under for this game at 8.5 runs (+100 for the over and -120 for the under). Bettors can also wager on the game’s spread with the current runline odds standing at -175 for the Reds +1.5 runs and +155 for the Pirates -1.5.

The Reds are just 25-45 SU and are 37-32 against the spread (ATS). They’ve lost 14.0 units for gamblers taking the moneyline and 5.2 units ATS. The Pirates, on the other hand, are 35-35 SU and 30-39 ATS. The team’s lost 2.8 units for bettors taking the moneyline and 12.6 units ATS.

As a unit, Pittsburgh’s pitching staff has given up 4.6 runs per game overall this year. The team’s starters have a 4.06 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 7.6 strikeouts per nine innings. The bullpen has a 4.56 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 9.7 K/9. In 31 games against divisional opponents, Pirates starters have an ERA of 3.18 and the bullpen’s ERA is 4.55.

The Pittsburgh hitters are putting up 4.6 runs per contest, including 4.7 per game against divisional foes and 5.4 per game over their last five. The team’s hit .264/.357/.459 over its last five games and is 3-2 SU during that span.

Outfielders Corey Dickerson and Starling Marte have led the Pirates’ offense this year. Dickerson is hitting .309/.344/.467 with five home runs, 32 RBIs and 31 runs scored, while Marte’s line sits at .282/.336/.467 with eight homers, 32 RBIs, 35 runs and 13 stolen bases.

In the visiting dugout, Cincinnati’s pitching staff allowed 5.2 runs per game and its starting pitchers own a 5.57 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 7.24 K/9. The bullpen has logged an ERA of 3.94, along with a WHIP of 1.51.

Second baseman Scooter Gennett and first baseman Joey Votto continue to lead Cincinnati’s offense. Gennett is slashing .336/.371/.539 with 12 home runs, 48 RBIs and 35 runs scored, while Votto is slashing .298/.422/.435 with six homers, 30 RBIs and 34 runs scored.

The Reds have lost 12.8 units and are 27-23 ATS when facing a right-handed starting pitcher this year. The over has hit in 21 of those games, as opposed to 28 that’ve gone under in such games. On the other hand, the Pirates have netted 0.5 units and are 25-28 ATS when facing a right-handed starting pitcher. The over’s hit in 22 of those games, as opposed to 25 which went under the total.
