CM Punk UFC Debut At UFC 199?

CM Punk UFC Debut

CM Punk UFC Debut – It appears that Dana White is planning for CM Punk’s UFC debut to happen, most likely, in June of this year at the UFC 199 event.  White apparently spotted a fighter named Mickey Gall on the UFC-related reality series “Looking for a Fight” and it is Gall who is tentatively scheduled to get the first shot at CM Punk.  Gall does have to win his February debut, where he is facing a fighter named Michael Jackson, but since Gall is the guy that White mentioned that is beside the point.  A Gall vs CM Punk match will be a nightmare for the sport books to create a line on, but lets take a look at what we do know.

CM Punk UFC Debut – Who is Mickey Gall?

Gall is a 23-year-old who has a combined pro and amateur record in MMA of 3-0. He trains in New Jersey with UFC veterans Dan and Jim Miller, and he is green enough that he announced on Twitter that he signed his UFC contract with his mom and dad.

Gall is a full 15 years younger than Punk and is listed as a welterweight. Though the match with Punk could see Gall fight as a Middleweight, he has acclimated to these weights, whereas Punk has performed for years at over 200 lbs. Since the news broke, the talk from Gall says a lot – he knows it is an opportunity, however he is also thoroughly unimpressed with his opponent.    For example, Gall said on the “Parting Shot Podcast” by James Lynch that he felt “extremely lucky” to get the chance, but that he was doing a sport where they were literally “fighting for their food and fighting for their money”.  ESPN’s Damon Martin referenced the SLFC Podcast, where Gall had stronger words to say regarding Punk “I finish CM Punk. I’m not sure if I knock him out or I submit him, but I think it ends, and I think it ends in the first round. I’m supremely confident.”

CM Punk UFC Debut – Good For The Sport?

When Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks,  first signed with the UFC he came with a pedigree as one of the WWE’s most marketed stars of the past few years.  He was a hot name, and though purists did not like the idea, the UFC appeared to have another ticket seller in the mill.

But a lot of time has passed.  Punk has been out of the spotlight for more than a year and people have short memories.  Those “CM Punk” chants at WWE events are waning.  There has even been word the debut was delayed because of injuries and that the 38-year-old Punk needed time to heal up.  If he is going to fight at a welterweight, he will need a weight loss of 50 lbs, since he stated that he often entered the WWE ring at around 220 lbs.

After all this time in basic reclusion, what will CM Punk look like for this fight?  And after all this time, will the public even care?

At the end of the day, this is probably going to look like Mickey Gall beat up an old man.
