North Texas Mean Green vs. Arkansas Razorbacks Betting Preview

In this Saturday game, Arkansas is tabbed as the favorite and the team’s currently giving up 7 points. If they want to play the moneyline, bettors would currently have to spend $300 in order to win $100 back on the Razorbacks (-300). The Mean Green are getting +220 moneyline odds. If one team gets out in front early, it’ll probably create a reasonable live betting opportunity.

This game’s opening line was initially set at -10 but the sharp action has been siding with the Mean Green.

The Mean Green are 1-1 against the spread (ATS) and have recorded 1.0 unit so far. They’ve been a good under bet and have recorded an O/U mark of 0-2. The Razorbacks have been a disappointment to moneyline bettors this season, losing 7.3 units. The team is 1-1 ATS and has an O/U record of 0-1.

The Mean Green have gone 2-0 straight up (SU) in 2018 while the Razorbacks are 1-1 SU.

The Mean Green are hoping to stay undefeated following a 58-16 win over Incarnate Word last week in which Mason Fine completed 25 passes for 418 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. DeAndre Torrey (just 44 yards on 16 rushes, but three TDs) led the ground attack while Rico Bussey, Jr. (eight receptions, 128 yards, three TDs) and Jalen Guyton (five catches, 111 yards, one TD) handled the receiving duties in the win.

Arkansas just fell 34-27 to Colorado State. As a group, the team collectively completed 11-of-22 passes for 138 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Ty Storey went five-for-13 for 36 yards and two interceptions while Cole Kelley was six-of-nine for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Devwah Whaley (165 yards on 26 rush attempts, one TD) and Chase Hayden (55 yards on 11 carries) handled the running game as La’Michael Pettway (two receptions, 31 yards, one TD) and Jeremy Patton (two catches, 26 yards) led the pass-catching attack in the loss.

North Texas has run the ball on 45.9 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Arkansas has an overall rush percentage of 63.8 percent. The Mean Green have produced 111 rush yards/game and have three scores on the ground this year. The Razorbacks are logging 190 rushing yards per game and have three total rush TDs.

If the results so far this season can translate to this game, then the Razorbacks may hold an edge in all aspects of the ground game. Their running backs has produced 4.2 yards per carry while the defense has allowed 2.6 yards per rush attempt to opponents. The Mean Green have tallied 2.6 yards per carry while allowing a YPC of 3.0 to opponents.

The Mean Green offensive scheme has averaged a stellar 458 yards through the air overall and has seven passing scores so far. The Razorbacks have recorded 246 pass yards per contest and have six total pass TDs.

Defensively, North Texas should have the upper hand when it comes to limiting the pass. The team has allowed opponents to rush for an average of 74 yards and pass for 202 yards per game. The Arkansas D has allowed 309.5 yards per game to opposing passers and 83.5 yards per game to opposing runners. The Mean Green are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of only 4.28 to opponents, while the Razorbacks have given up a 7.04 ANY/A.

Passing-wise, Fine has put up 418 yards this season. He’s completed 25-of-40 attempts with four scores through the air and one interception. He has a sparkling 11.32 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 10.21 over the last two games.

We expect Fine to attack all areas of the Arkansas secondary. Rico Bussey, Jr. (10 receiving yards and three touchdowns), Jalen Guyton (111 yards, one TD) and Jaelon Darden (10 yards) have all been heavily involved recently.

Ty Storey has connected on 5-of-13 passes for 36 yards, zero TDs and two INTs for Arkansas. His ANY/A stands at a minuscule -4.15 for the year and 8.90 over his last two games.

Devwah Whaley, Jordan Jones and La’Michael Pettway have combined for 451 total yards and six touchdowns as a trio over the last two games.
