Miami (FL) Hurricanes vs. Boston College Eagles Betting Preview

Boston College is a live dog and is currently getting 3.5 points in this ACC game. The Hurricanes are also receiving -175 moneyline odds while the Eagles are +155. Vegas has placed the over/under (O/U) at 51.5 points. If Miami (FL) gives up points early, it’ll likely generate a nice in-game betting opportunity.

Sharp bettors have been siding with both the Hurricanes and the under. The line originally opened at 1.5 while the game’s over/under was initially 53.

The Hurricanes are down 1.6 units so far in 2018 and 3-4 against the spread (ATS). The team has posted an O/U mark of 5-2. The Eagles have lost 0.4 units this season. The team is 5-2 ATS and also owns an O/U record of 5-2.

The Hurricanes are 5-2 straight up (SU), including 2-1 SU against conference opponents. The Eagles are 5-2 SU overall and 2-1 SU in conference play.

These two conference foes did not get a chance to face one another a year ago.

The Hurricanes came up short to Virginia 16-13 in a nailbiter where their defense allowed the Cavaliers to eat up the clock by rushing for 139 yards on 41 attempts, along with one rushing TD. On the offensive side, the Hurricanes completed 15-of-29 passes for 190 yards and three interceptions. Malik Rosier went 12-for-23 for 170 yards and one interception while N’Kosi Perry completed three-of-six for 20 yards and two interceptions. DeeJay Dallas (only 24 yards on 10 rush attempts) and Travis Homer (95 yards on eight carries) led the running attack while Homer (three receptions, 50 yards) and Lawrence Cager (three catches, 58 yards) manned the receiving duties in the defeat.

Boston College takes the field on Friday following a 38-20 win over Louisville. Anthony Brown completed 16-of-22 passes for 179 yards and one touchdown. David Bailey (112 rushing yards on 28 attempts, one TD) and Ben Glines (107 yards on 17 carries, one TD) mounted the running game while Tommy Sweeney (five receptions, 18 yards) and Travis Levy (four catches, 35 yards) led the pass-catching corps in the win.

Miami (FL) has run the ball on 59.6 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Boston College has a rush percentage of 65.3 percent. The Hurricanes have rushed for 188 yards per game (including 160 per game against Atlantic Coast opponents) and have 15 scores on the ground this year. The Eagles are averaging 227 rush yards per game (197 in conference) and have 16 total rushing TDs.

The Hurricanes offense has averaged 211 yards through the air overall (173 per game versus conference opposition) and has 16 passing scores so far. The Eagles have put up 221 pass yards per outing (227.0 in the ACC) and have 19 total pass TDs.

Defensively, Miami (FL) should have the upper hand in both facets. The team has let opponents run for an average of 106 yards and pass for 131 yards per game. The Boston College D has given up 223.6 yards per game to opposing passers and 147.3 yards per game to opposing runners. The Hurricanes are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of just 2.03 to opponents, while the Eagles have given up a 3.99 ANY/A.

Offensively, Perry has amassed 462 passing yards this season. He’s completed 37-of-57 attempts with seven passing scores and five interceptions. He’s got a 5.61 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 4.21 over the last two outings.

Look for a balanced approach offensively from Miami (FL) in this one. Travis Homer (459 rushing yards, one rush TD, 61 receiving yards on the year), Lawrence Cager (232 receiving yards, four receiving TDs) and Brevin Jordan (157 receiving yards, three TDs) have all played big roles recently.

For the home team, Anthony Brown has completed 77-of-130 passes for 1,040 yards, 13 TDs and four INTs. Brown’s ANY/A stands at 7.69 for the season and 7.71 over his past two outings.

As a trio, Ben Glines, Michael Walker and David Bailey have collectively accounted for 451 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns over the last two outings.
