Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at North Carolina Tar Heels Betting Preview

In this Saturday Atlantic Coast game, Georgia Tech is projected as the favorite and is currently giving up 4.5 points. If they want to play the moneyline, bettors would currently have to spend $200 in order to net $100 back on the Yellow Jackets (-200). The Tar Heels are getting +170 moneyline odds. Oddsmakers have determined the over/under (O/U) to be 61 points, and it appears that there will probably be some solid live betting opportunities for the matchup.

The game’s O/U hasn’t moved after it was set initially at 61. Having said that, the opening line was 3.5 so sharp bettors have been siding with the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets are 3-5 against the spread (ATS) and are down 3.4 units so far in 2018. The team has posted an O/U record of 5-2. The disappointing Tar Heels have lost 12.1 units this season. The team is 3-3-1 ATS and the over’s hit in five of its games.

The Yellow Jackets are 4-4 straight up (SU), including 2-3 SU against ACC opponents. The Tar Heels are 1-6 SU overall and 1-4 SU in conference play.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a resounding 49-28 victory over Virginia Tech last week. The passing attack could’ve been better as the Yellow Jackets completed 0-of-1 passes for zero yards. Tobias Oliver went zero-for-1 for 0 yards while Jordan Mason completed -of- for yards. Oliver (215 yards on 40 rush attempts, three TDs) also led the running attack in the win and was complemented by Jordan Mason (82 yards on 12 carries, three TDs). Tobias Oliver ( receptions, yards) handled the receiving duties.

North Carolina most-recently lost a 31-21 game to Virginia. The defense allowed the Cavaliers to eat up the clock by running for 208 yards on 44 rush attempts, along with one rushing TD. Olamide Zaccheaus put up a solid outing in the win, recording 108 yards on 10 catches for Virginia. For North Carolina, Nathan Elliott completed 22-of-38 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Michael Carter (42 yards on eight rush attempts, one TD) handled the ground game in the defeat as Beau Corrales (four receptions, 62 yards) and Anthony Ratliff-Williams (three catches, 18 yards) led the pass-catching attack.

Georgia Tech has run the ball on 84.7 percent of its offensive possessions this year while North Carolina has a rush percentage of 47.3 percent. The Yellow Jackets have produced 367 rush yards per game (including 340 per game versus Atlantic Coast opponents) and have 37 touchdowns via handoffs this year. The Heels are totaling 170 rush yards per game (174 in conference) and have eight total rushing TDs.

If the numbers so far this season are any indication, then it appears the Yellow Jackets might hold an edge in all aspects of the ground game. Their running backs has logged 6.2 yards per carry while their defense is allowing a YPC of 4.2 to opponents. The Tar Heels have registered 4.9 yards per carry and allowed 4.7 yards per rush attempt to opponents.

The Yellow Jackets offensive scheme has averaged 88 yards in the air overall (52 per game against conference opposition) and has four passing scores so far. The Heels have put up 240 pass yards per outing (261.2 in the ACC) and have eight total pass TDs.

Georgia Tech has allowed opponents to run for an average of 135 yards and pass for 227 yards per game. The North Carolina defense has allowed 221.7 yards per game to opposing passers and 191.3 yards per game to opposing runners. Both teams allow similar adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) to opponents, as the Yellow Jackets have given up an ANY/A of 6.18 to opposing QBs, while the Heels are allowing an ANY/A of 5.79.

Offensively, Marshall has put up 645 passing yards this year, and has completed 36-of-76 attempts with three passing scores and four interceptions. Marshall’s got a 5.77 adjusted net yards per pass attempt overall, although that number sits at 8.50 over the past two games.

In the host locker room, Nathan Elliott has connected on 108-of-182 passes for 1,191 yards, six TDs and four INTs. Elliott’s ANY/A sits at 5.94 for the season and 7.17 across his last two outings.

These two schools faced off a year ago with the final result being a 33-7 win for Georgia Tech.
