Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Louisville Cardinals Betting Preview

Louisville is entering this ACC matchup as the underdog and is currently getting 3.5 points. The Yellow Jackets are also receiving -175 moneyline odds while the Cardinals are +155. Should one squad can create a bunch of points early, it’ll probably create a decent in-game betting opportunity.

The Yellow Jackets are down 4.5 units so far and 1-4 against the spread (ATS). The team has posted an O/U record of 3-1. The Cardinals have lost 2.0 units this season. The team is 1-4 ATS and owns an O/U record of 2-3.

The Yellow Jackets are 2-3 straight up (SU), including 0-2 SU against ACC opponents. The Cardinals are 2-3 SU overall and are also 0-2 SU in conference play.

These two ACC foes did not get a chance to face each other in 2017.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a resounding 63-17 win over Bowling Green last week. TaQuon Marshall completed five passes on 6 attempts for just 160 yards. Marshall (42 yards on 13 rush attempts, two TDs) also led the running attack and was complemented by Tobias Oliver (115 yards on seven carries, two TDs). Jalen Camp (two receptions, 70 yards) and Clinton Lynch (one catch, 41 yards) shared the receiving duties in the win.

Louisville just suffered a 28-24 defeat to Florida State. The defensive secondary allowed the Seminoles to air it out for 294 yards and four touchdowns. Nyqwan Murray put up a good showing for Florida State, accounting for 114 yards and two touchdowns on six catches. For Louisville, Jawon Pass completed 24-of-45 passes for 306 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Trey Smith (70 rushing yards on 14 attempts) and the signal-caller Pass (-14 yards on 11 carries, one TD) mounted the running attack as Micky Crum (eight receptions, 47 yards, one TD) led the pass-catching corps in the loss.

Georgia Tech’s run the ball on 80.5 percent of its offensive plays this year, including 83.0 percent across possessions in conference play. Louisville has an overall run percentage of 52.2 percent, and has rushed the ball 47.9 percent of the time when facing ACC opponents. The Yellow Jackets have run for 339 yards per game (including 233 per game versus Atlantic Coast opponents) and have 21 scores on the ground this year. The Cards are totaling 120 rush yards per game (91 in conference) and have five total rushing TDs.

The Yellow Jackets offensive scheme has logged 114 yards per contest through the air overall (62 per game against conference opposition) and has three passing scores so far. The Cards have recorded 192 pass yards per contest (227.0 in the ACC) and have five total pass TDs.

Georgia Tech has allowed opponents to run for an average of 149 yards and throw for 207 yards per game. The Louisville D has allowed 217.0 yards per game to opposing passers and 168.8 yards per game on the ground. The Yellow Jackets are giving up an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of only 5.05 to opposing QBs, while the Cards have allowed an 8.39 ANY/A.

Offensively, Marshall is up to 513 passing yards on the year, and has connected on 51 percent of his 57 attempts with two scores through the air and four interceptions. Marshall has a 5.92 adjusted net yards per pass attempt overall, although that number sits at 11.33 over the past two outings.

Jawon Pass has completed 52-of-101 passes for 647 yards, four TDs and six INTs for Louisville. His ANY/A sits at a terrible 3.59 for the season and 3.91 across his last two games.
