Northern Illinois Huskies vs. Florida State Seminoles Betting Preview

In this Saturday matchup, Florida State has been projected as the big favorite and is currently giving up 10 points. In order to take the home favorite, moneyline gamblers would currently have to lay down $400 to win $100 back on the Noles (-400). The Huskies are getting +300 moneyline odds. This tilt should provide several decent in-game betting opportunities, and Vegas has determined the over/under (O/U) to be 44.5 points.

Sharp bettors are siding with the Huskies. The line opened at -12 and the game’s total has not moved after it was set initially at 44.5.

The Huskies are 1-2 against the spread (ATS) and have lost 1.0 unit so far. They’ve been a good under bet and have recorded an Over-Under mark of 0-3. The Seminoles have been a disappointment to moneyline bettors this season, losing 5.0 units. They’re 0-3 ATS and have an O/U record of 1-2.

The Huskies have gone 1-2 straight up (SU) in 2018 while the Seminoles are also 1-2 SU.

The Huskies enter after a 24-16 victory over Central Michigan last week. The Huskies defense allowed the Chippewas to rush for 164 yards on 46 attempts, along with one rushing TD. Offensively, Marcus Childers completed 11 passes for only 109 yards and three touchdowns. Marcus Jones (only 40 yards on 15 rush attempts) and Tre Harbison (124 yards on 13 carries) led the running attack while D.J. Brown (four receptions, 69 yards, one TD) and Jauan Wesley (two catches, eight yards) shared the receiving duties in the win.

Florida State just fell 30-7 to Syracuse. Deondre Francois completed 18-of-36 passes for 178 yards and one interception. Cam Akers (52 rushing yards on 10 attempts) led the running game as Keith Gavin (six receptions, 79 yards) and Nyqwan Murray (three catches, 31 yards) led the pass-catching attack in the loss.

Northern Illinois has run the ball on 61.7 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Florida State has a rush percentage of 42.2 percent. The Huskies have produced 133 rush yards/game and have yet to record a score on the ground this year. The Noles are logging 97 rush yards per game and have two total rushing TDs.

If 2018 numbers are any indication, then it’s looking like the Huskies should hold an edge along both the offensive and defensive fronts, as their offensive line has given up just 26 sacks while the D-line registered 43 sacks. The Seminoles offensive line has allowed 32 sacks and their defense has sacked opposing QBs on just 29 occasions.

The Huskies offense has averaged 108 yards through the air overall and has four passing score so far. The Noles have put up 244 pass yards per outing and have three total pass TDs.

On the defensive side of the ball, Northern Illinois appears to have the upper hand when it comes to limiting the pass. The team has allowed 147 rush yards and 196 pass yards per game. The Florida State defense has given up 300.3 yards per game to opposing passers and 128.0 yards per game on the ground. The Huskies are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of just 4.76 to opposing QBs, while the Noles have given up a 6.32 ANY/A.

Offensively, Childers is up to 214 passing yards on the year, and has completed 58 percent of his 43 attempts with four passing scores and one interception. Childers has a 3.94 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 3.36 over the last two outings.

Deondre Francois has completed 40-of-71 passes for 411 yards, zero TDs and four INTs for Florida State. His ANY/A stands at a horrendous 2.13 for the year and 5.44 over his last two games.
