The first College Football Playoff poll of the season is perfectly timed to capitalize on all of the hype and intrigue surrounding one of the most exciting times of the college football year. After a few more pieces fell in to place in Week 10, the groundwork has been laid for what should be an exciting Week 11. A handful of teams will have the opportunity to make statements as they continue their push for a top four spot. Meanwhile, there are a number of teams in the top-25 mix that will need to be careful to avoid potential trap games. Here is a look at the top ranked teams on upset alert in college football this week.
No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish @ No. 7 Miami Hurricanes
Saturday, 8:00 PM ET
The Fighting Irish are cruising right now with seven straight victories including notable wins over USC and North Carolina State to climb in to the top-five in the AP polls. Their only loss on the season was to Georgia, who is now the top-ranked team in the country. However, Notre Dame isn’t in the clear just yet as they visit Miami this week and still have to visit Stanford in their season finale. Running back Josh Adams will look to showcase his skill set on the national stage this weekend for the visitors. However, the Hurricanes have some weapons of their own to counter with quarterback Malik Rosier in a starring role. Rosier has thrown for 2,264 yards including three 300-yard performances this season. Miami has CFP aspirations of its own and with a chance to make a splash this Saturday at home there is no doubt they will have Notre Dame on upset alert.
No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs @ No. 10 Auburn Tigers
Saturday, 3:30 PM ET
The Bulldogs are rolling as the No. 2 ranked team in the country heading in to Week 11. They will need to keep their foot on the gas in order to avoid any letdowns down this final stretch. Next up for Georgia is a tough test on the road against an Auburn side that has been better than expected this season. The Tigers have a chance to make a statement this week with plenty of time afterwards to rest and prepare for another showdown with Alabama in the final week of the season. The Bulldogs are capable of winning this game but it won’t be easy on the road and in a hostile environment on Saturday.
No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners vs. No. 8 TCU Horned Frogs
Saturday, 8:00 PM ET
Fifth-ranked Oklahoma pulled out an impressive 62-52 win over Oklahoma State to remain in position to contend for a College Football Playoff spot. Now the Sooners will need to avoid a letdown at home against TCU. The Horned Frogs bounced back from a loss to Iowa State with a 24-7 win over Texas in Week 10. While TCU’s Kenny Hill doesn’t have the elite numbers that Baker Mayfield has put up for Oklahoma this season he is more than capable of leading an upset charge for the Horned Frogs. With so much on the line in one game, TCU will have the Sooners on upset alert this weekend. The fate of the Big 12 will be decided in this showdown.
No. 9 Washington Huskies @ Stanford Cardinals
Friday, 10:30 PM ET
Washington has bounced back from its loss to Arizona State with back-to-back wins over UCLA and Oregon over the past couple of weeks. Now the Huskies will face another tough test this week on the road at Stanford. The Cardinal is coming off a third loss of the season. However, Stanford was in a tough spot in the second of back-to-back road games against a tough Washington State team. The Cardinal still have a chance to rally with three straight home games to close out the year but they can’t look past this week’s contest. Stanford will throw everything it has at Washington with the hope that it can provide another major shakeup in the Pac-12.
