Colts News: Jim Irsay Muddles Andrew Luck’s Injury Status

Andrew Luck Colts

Maybe reporters shouldn’t ask Jim Irsay questions. Ignoring what should be standard advice, journalists did just that Tuesday, surely opening a monster can of worms that Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich and quarterback Andrew Luck will be dealing with for the next month.

Talking to reporters about his quarterback, Irsay ignored the problem with Luck’s calf, that has kept him out of the preseason, but instead claims it’s a “bone issue.” And no one knows that that means. Least of all Irsay.

“It’s in another area,” Jim Irsay told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “It’s a bone, I’m not good at these thing, but it’s … a small little bone.”

In the calf?

One thing is for sure after the stumbling flub, Irsay is right. He’s not good at these things. He does think, regardless of whatever issue he feels Luck is suffering from, his All-Universe quarterback will be fine.

“I really feel very confident that he (Luck) is going to find his way through this thing,” Irsay said. “I think after the (Kevin) Durant thing everyone’s erring on the side of caution, but, quite frankly, this is not even in the Achilles tendon. But he’s doing very well. Very excited. He’s a married man, baby on the way. And he couldn’t be more excited for the season. We wish there wasn’t any little tweaks at all, but as you know, these things come up and you’ve got to deal with them.”

To make sense out of that, you have to dig through it. Irsay is saying it’s not an Achilles, but a bone issue. A “little” bone, which means it can’t even be in his lower leg because there are no “little bones” there. Is it his ankle? Then why haven’t they said that? Knee? Again, why has “calf” been the story?

The Colts, as you can guess, haven’t clarified anything as of this writing. Where would they even begin?
