Last night’s loss to Ohio State, at home no less, has people around the Hawkeyes’ basketball program concerned about any Iowa NCAA Tournament chances, like a run to the Final Four, that many had been talking about in recent weeks.
Iowa has now lost three of their last four games, with only a win over Minnesota keeping this from looking like a total and complete meltdown. Senior and Big 10 Player of the Year candidate Jarrod Uthoff has slipped in his efficiency as of late, particularly in this stretch of poor play for the Hawkeyes. In the last five games, he’s shot over 40-percent from the field just once, in the team’s win over the Gophers.
Not long ago, many looked at Iowa has the surprise team of the year and the favorite to win the Big 10–perhaps, even, to make a run at the Final Four. Uthoff’s buzz had reached an all-time high and people even discussed him in the National Player of the Year Award discussion. That all seems like so long ago from where we stand how.
If Iowa is to save what was such a promising season, after being so lost earlier in the year, they’ll need to prove to people that they haven’t peaked too early and that they can still make a run in a tournament setting–think the Big 10 Tournament.
