It’s not very often that an MMA fighter is featured in front of the mainstream. Wednesday evening, UFC Interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor went on Jimmy Kimmel Live and engaged in a quick, yet entertaining interview. Conor walked out in a bedazzled suit, looking sharp as always, and handled himself with zest and class. He had a good balance of prepared answers, humor, but also some genuine dialogue. The audience erupted after nearly everything Conor said, and he really represented himself, the UFC, and the sport of MMA very well all while staying true to the brash Irishman that he is.
Live talk shows generally aren’t an appropriate platform to announce any sort of breaking news – so unfortunately we didn’t get to hear much that we didn’t already know. The only thing that can really be taken away is that Conor McGregor is scoping the market for an exotic animal. Perhaps he’s wanting to establish that Mike Tyson personna? Or maybe he’s taking after Jon Jones (who owns an exotic cat). Conor mentioned he’s interested in a chimpanzee – I can’t lie, it would be hilarious to see him walk out to the Octagon with a chimp!
