Is Dak Prescott demanding $40 million a year or not? I guess it depends on who you ask. According to NFL.com source, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback is looking for exactly that, which would reset the market and put him $5 million ahead of the current top paid quarterback, Seattle’s Russell Wilson.
I can confirm reports that QB Dak Prescott has, in fact, turned down 30M a year offer and is instead seeking 40M a year per source informed. #Cowboys

But a source tells NBC Sports to slow your roll. The Pro Bowl quarterback hasn’t demanded that at all. According to their insider, that number is “based on either new money or total value at signing.” What does that mean? I have no idea.
Source says report that Cowboys QB Dak Prescott wants $40M per year is all-caps false, under new-money standard or total value at signing analysis.

It’s been previously reported that the Cowboys have offered Prescott $30 million and he’s countered with $34 million, which seems closer to the number both sides will eventually settle on. That number would tie him with Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers as the second highest paid quarterback. My guess is they’ll settle at around $33 million which is what Aaron Rogers is currently making.
Is Prescott worth the money? The quick answer is yes. The long answer is, absolutely yes. He’s a franchise quarterback and has proved it, beyond any realistic doubt, in his first three seasons in the league. He’s 33-18 as a starter in the regular and postseason, he’s made the Pro Bowl twice and he led the Cowboys to their first postseason win since 2014.
He’s already surpassed 10,000 passing yards (10,876 to be exact) and has a career completion percentage of 66.1 percent. Dallas hit the jackpot in drafting Prescott in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and have experienced a huge discount because of it. The QB is set to make $2.025 million this year and he’s in camp, not holding out and sipping umbrella drinks in Cabo.
Prescott has earned the cash and the Cowboys are smart to pay it now before he leads them on another playoff season and the price goes up. What they can’t afford to do, is let someone like Jared Goff of the Los Angeles Rams reset the market again before Dak signs on the dotted line.
