Cowboys News: Jason Witten Says Team Deserves Jerry Jones’ Criticism

It’s Thanksgiving week, which means we get some Dallas Cowboy football in just a few days. Equally important, Jerry Jones was critical of the team and coaching staff in the wake of the 13-9 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Understandably so: the Cowboys looked flat, uninspired, and sloppy. They’re a decent but flawed team who seems to lose in this fashion entirely too often. Now, Jason Witten has come out to the media to say he agrees with Jones when he makes his own assessment.

According to ESPN, Witten seems to sympathize with the owner.

“Passion, emotion, the energy he brings, that is Line 1 for Mr. Jones, I feel like from my perspective. He wants to win. He expects to win. He feels like he’s put a great team together, which he has, and we haven’t played to our expectations of where we should be. That’s completely fair. I think it’s just the raw emotion of it all. He’s been around a lot of great football and knows what he wants it to look like.”

Notably, Witten played in his 250th NFL game on Sunday in the loss to New England. Moreover and in an interesting twist, a rumor is out there that has Witten in consideration to become the team’s next head coach. In this case, there wasn’t a lot more he could say. It isn’t like he could say the team played well, so he’s just shooting the media straight.

It’s becoming clear that Jones’ vote of confidence for Jason Garrett a few months back is of little importance right now.

When you lose the most-watched regular season game since 1996 and don’t score a touchdown, it’s going to irk the owner of the team. This was a game that Garrett and his colleagues dearly needed a good showing, and it was anything but that.

Dallas welcomes the upstart Buffalo Bills on Turkey Day, and even a win in that game wouldn’t have the same sizzle as an upset over the Patriots would have.

Surely, the Cowboys seem like a team destined for another one and done. This is a storyline that will continue to build towards some type of resolution in January. Suddenly it feels like Jones is gaining support from his trusted veterans to make a change at head coach.
