Truly, you have to love Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones. While no statement is too big, what he said on Friday could be talked about all weekend. Indeed, he spoke glowingly about his quarterback Dak Prescott.
Jones told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas that Prescott is evolving more into a Brady-type than that of Tony Romo or Troy Aikman. Keep in mind, one of those players is a Hall of Famer; the other is the most proficient passer in Cowboys’ history.
Jerry Jones on @1053thefan was asked if Dak Prescott is more like Troy Aikman or Tony Romo. Jones said neither: "I think he's more like Brady. We know Tom Brady and he's not Tom Brady. But he's evolving into a guy that will beat you. I think we got us one in Dak."

Here’s the direct quote from Jones:
“I think he’s more like Brady. We know Tom Brady and he’s not Tom Brady. But he’s evolving into a guy that will beat you. I think we got us one in Dak.”
Remember, Prescott is up for an extension after this season and is playing on a league-minimum contract. Recently, Prescott’s agency rejected a $30 million dollar per year contract offer and countered with something in the $40 million per year range.
Currently, Prescott has a 113.4 quarterback rating to go along with 9 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions. Equally important, Dallas is 3-1; bringing Prescott’s lifetime record as a starter to 35-17.
Still, there are stark differences between Prescott and Brady. To begin with, Brady has won six titles. Obviously, there’s time for Prescott to win a few; but he must first win one. In addition, Prescott hasn’t been signed to a new deal yet. For instance, if Jones really thought he had a 26-year old Tom Brady on his hands; one would think he would back up the Brinks truck and keep him under contract for the foreseeable future.
With that being said, negotiations have continued to stall according to league sources. In all probability, this is a case of the owner trying to provide confidence to his quarterback before a big game. Dallas hosts the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at home. While Jones likely loves the play from his quarterback, he went over the top with this statement and had a reason for doing so.
Finally, it’s unlikely that reason is really because he thinks he’s exactly like Tom Brady.
