Cubs Sign Kimbrel, Cano Hurt Again and More

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

It didn’t take long after the Major League Baseball Draft concluded for the Cubs to sign Craig Kimbrel to a three-year contract. It didn’t take long for the Mets’ Robinson Cano to re-injure himself after returning from the injured list on Wednesday. On the other hand, it did take a while, but the Blue Jays took Roy Halladay’s son in the 32nd round for a specific reason. Elsewhere, Carlos Carrasco has a health condition and the Mariners — finally — beat the Astros.

Once the Draft was over, there was no penalty for teams to sign Kimbrel. The Cubs will soon have a lock-down closer that could complete their roster.

This Robinson Cano business has turned messy for the Mets, who might have asked their star second baseman to come back too soon.

The Blue Jays drafted the son of the late Roy Halladay, whose No. 32 will forever be remembered in Toronto, in the 32nd round of the MLB Draft on Wednesday.

Scary stuff here for the Indians’ Carlos Carrasco, who’s dealing with bigger problems than baseball. Best wishes to him.

The Mariners had lost seven of eight, the Astros had won five straight and the Astros had won all five meetings with the Mariners this season. So what happened? Naturally, a 14-1 Mariners blowout.
