For the first time since Modern Warfare 2, OpTic Gaming were unable to win a major tournament under the previous Call of Duty game. They never quite got things right in World War II despite making multiple lineup changes. The Green Wall brought in stars like Octane and Methodz, to pair with veterans Scump and Crimsix, but the most successful organization in Call of Duty history failed to finish better than fourth last season. It’s now been a year since OpTic won a major event (OpTic won the CWL Championship in August 2017, which was the last Infinite Warfare tournament).
This offseason brought multiple changes as OpTic brought back Karma and added Dashy and TJHaLy into the mix since lineups expanded to five players this season. Thus far, those acquisitions are looking incredibly shrewd as OpTic won the last four weekly online tournaments held prior to this event, establishing themselves as the favorite coming into this event.
For OpTic it all starts with Scump. In a game where players are constantly swapping teams, typically playing on multiple teams over the course of a season, Scump has been a bedrock. He is the most decorated player in Call of Duty history, winning 31 major tournaments over his career. Scump is closing in on his fifth year with OpTic and he is arguably the best SMG Slayer to ever play.
Crimsix and Scump have been paired together for the past four years, and Crimsix is almost as legendary. Some would say he has the best gun skills of anyone to ever play the game, winning showdowns and clutching rounds when his team needs him the most.
Bringing Karma back into the fold seems to have paid off too. Karma joined the team in April 2015, but he stepped away from the team in May of this year for a combination of reasons. He rejoined OpTic once he got his hands on this game though, and they seem to have rekindled the magic they once had.
Dashy and TJHaLy are new additions. Both players are relatively young at 19, but they have both showcased a lot of skill.
Until someone defeats them, OpTic have to be considered the favorites, and I’d argue they should be odds-on favorites considering their dominance in the 2k tournaments prior to this event.
