With tons of picks in the upcoming NFL Draft the Dallas Cowboys can really bring in some talent and address needs up and down their roster. The Cowboys are sitting on just $7.95 million in cap space so they’ve probably finished shopping and re-signing players. With that in mind I’ve put together what should be the Cowboys perfect mock draft.
They’ve got 10 holes in the roster already from players that won’t be returning so the Cowboys need to hit on most, if not all of these picks.

Round 1, Pick 4 – Jalen Ramsey, CB, Florida State
2015: 52 tackles, 3.5 for a loss, one sack, nine passes defended, one fumble recovery, 6-foot-1, 209 pounds
Ramsey played safety his junior year at Florida State, but in the NFL he’s a corner and the consensus best corner in this draft. With the Cowboys re-signing Renaldo McClain and getting a full season out of Sean Lee on the outside, they can forgo taking Myles Jack here and pick up a corner that not only should be a day-one starter on their team, but allow them to cut Brandon Carr and his $9 million in cap space.
Round 2. Pick 34 – Austin Johnson, DT, Penn State
2015: 78 tackles, 15 for a loss, 6.5 sacks, two passes defended, one fumble recovery, 6-foot-4, 314 pounds
Johnson is a tremendous value pick in the second round and the Cowboys could get lucky and grab him here thanks to all the teams that will be looking at quarterbacks in the first round. Johnson’s production and size make him hard to overlook even though the Cowboys’ main need on the defensive line is at the end position.
Round 3, Pick 67 – Devontae Booker, RB, Utah
2015: 268 carries, 1,261 yards, 4.7 yards per carry, 11 touchdowns, 37 catches, 316 yards, 5-foot-11, 219 pounds
The Cowboys have only one decent running back under contract right now and it’s Darren McFadden. McFadden had a great year in 2015, but no one can expect the oft-injured running back to stay healthy two years in a row. Dallas has to get a running back that can play out of this draft and Booker fits the bill. He can run and catch the ball out of the backfield and with Lance Dunbar, the Cowboys third-down back testing free agency, they need to find a guy that can replace him as a receiving target.
Round 4, Pick 101 – Kenny Lawler, WR, California
2015: 52 catches, 658 yards, 13 touchdowns, 6-foot-2, 203 pounds
Lawler’s size and ability to get open in the red zone should come into play early in his NFL career. His 4.64 40-yard dash at the combine lumps him into the slower wide receiver category, but he can run good routes and was quarterback Jared Goff’s favorite target with the Golden Bears.
Round 4, Pick 135 – Cardale Jones, QB, Ohio State
2015: 62.3 completion percentage, 1,459 yards, eight touchdowns, 64 rushes, 193 yards, two touchdowns, 6-foot-5, 253 pounds
Somebody is going to draft Jones as a project and for the Cowboys it makes perfect sense. Jones won’t come in thinking he’s going to be doing anything but riding the bench for the next three seasons so he should be smart enough to soak up the offense and learn all he can from Tony Romo.
Round 6, Pick 189 – Adam Gotsis, DT, Georgia Tech
2015: 31 tackles, five for a loss, three sacks, two fumble recoveries, 6-foot-4, 287 pounds
Gotsis missed the final few games of the season with a knee injury and that cost him in draft position, but won’t cost him a job. The Cowboys get value with the first of their three sixth-round picks on a guy that would have gone in the third round if he hadn’t gotten hurt.
Round 6, Pick 212 – Rees Odhiambo, OG, Boise State
2015: All-Mountain West his final two seasons, 6-foot-4, 314 pounds
Odhiambo is another player that becomes a value pick because of injuries over the last couple of seasons. The Cowboys have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL so they can afford to take a chance on Odhiambo here for the reward down the road.
Round 6, Pick 216 – Nick Kwiatkoski, ILB, West Virginia
2015: 85 tackles, 11.5 for a loss, four sacks, three interceptions, five passes defended, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, 6-foot-2, 243 pounds
Kwiatkoski is a tremendous athlete with deceptive quickness at the inside linebacker position. The Cowboys need depth and the instinctive Kwiatkoski should fit the bill after leading the Mountaineers in tackles for the last three seasons.
Round 6, Pick 217 – Kavon Frazier, Safety, Central Michigan
2015: 108 tackles,, 4.5 for a loss, one interception, four passes defended, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, 6-foot-0, 217 pounds
The Cowboys have a couple of good, young starting safeties already on the roster, so safety isn’t a need. What Frazier brings is a tackling machine that can add depth and play special teams.
