Dallas Mavericks – Atlanta Hawks Preview – 02.01.2016

The Dallas Mavericks will travel to Philips Arena to square off against the Atlanta Hawks. The game starts at 8:00 pm ET on Monday, Feb. 1 and will air on FxS and FSW.

The Hawks beat the Nuggets 119-105 in their last game. Paul Millsap was the game’s high scorer with 22 points on 8-for-15 shooting. The Mavericks, meanwhile, are coming off a 92-90 win over the Lakers in their last outing. Chandler Parsons stood out, posting 17 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

Parsons has been on a tear over the last five games for the Mavericks, averaging 24.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.8 steals, and 3.6 three-pointers.

Based on each team’s statistical profile, the turnover story could loom large in this showdown. Dallas commits the third-fewest errors in the NBA (turnover percentage of 13.1%), while Atlanta’s gambling defense causes the second-most (opponents’ turnover percentage of 16.3%).

This will be the second matchup of the season between these two teams. The Hawks won the first game 98-95. Millsap put up 20 points and 11 rebounds.

The Hawks, a seven-point favorite, will look to capitalize at home against Dallas. The Over/Under (O/U) for the matchup is set at 200 points. The Hawks are attempting to build on their records of 27-22 Straight Up (SU) and 22-25-2 Against The Spread (ATS). They have gone 11-9 SU and 9-11 ATS against teams from the Western Conference. Atlanta has been steady from the free throw line, shooting a stellar .793. Few teams in the league have a higher assist-to-turnover ratio than Atlanta, which ranks fourth at 1.78. Something to watch out for is if Atlanta can force its opponents into turnovers and convert them into baskets. They’ve done an excellent job of that all year with an average of 19.9 points off turnovers per game to lead the league.

On the other side, Dallas has a SU record of 28-22 and an ATS record of 29-20-1. In Eastern Conference games, Dallas has gone 10-9 SU and 10-8-1 ATS.

With the Hawks’ last win against Dallas, their SU record rises to 6-4 over the Mavericks in the last 10 meetings. Additionally, the Hawks lead the matchup ATS with a record of 6-4.
