Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers Betting Preview

Detroit is projected as the underdog and is currently getting 3 points in this NFC matchup. The Lions are also receiving +130 moneyline odds while the 49ers are -150. Should one side gets out in front early, it’ll probably produce a nice live betting opportunity.

The opening line was initially set at 2 but the early action has leaned to the Niners.

The Lions are 0-1 straight up (SU) in 2018 while the 49ers are also 0-1 SU.

The Lions fell to the Jets 48-17 in a Week 1 thumping where their defense allowed the Jets to run for 169 yards on 36 rush attempts, including two rush TDs. Isaiah Crowell had a productive day for the opposition in that one with 102 rushing yards and both touchdowns on 10 attempts. On the offensive side of the ball, the Lions completed 29-of-52 passes for 300 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions. Matthew Stafford went 27-for-46 for 286 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions while Matt Cassel completed two-of-six for 14 yards and one interception. Kerryon Johnson (only 17 yards on five rushes) led the ground attack while Kenny Golladay (seven receptions, 114 yards) and Golden Tate (seven catches, 79 yards, one TD) handled the receiving duties in the defeat.

San Francisco just dropped a 24-16 game to Minnesota in Week 1. The defensive unit allowed the Vikings to run for 116 yards on 32 rush attempts. Adam Thielen put up a productive showing in the win, posting 102 yards on six catches for Minnesota. For San Francisco, Jimmy Garoppolo completed 15-of-33 passes for 261 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Alfred Morris (38 rushing yards on 12 attempts) and Matt Breida (46 yards on 11 carries) spearheaded the running game as George Kittle (five receptions, 90 yards) and Trent Taylor (four catches, 28 yards) led the pass-catching attack in the loss.

If the results last year are any indication, then it appears the Niners should hold an advantage in all aspects of the ground game, as their running backs produced 4.1 yards per carry last season while their defense allowed a YPC of 3.8 to opponents. The Lions registered 3.4 yards per carry last year while allowing 4.2 YPC to the opposition..
