Detroit Pistons at Washington Wizards

Spread: Detroit Pistons -1.5 (-110) at BetDSI Sportsbook

Total: Over/Under 205.5 points (-110)

The Pistons are searching for the fourth win in a row

The Detroit Pistons are in good form of three straight victories, and they are playing way above the expectations, so Stan Van Gundy has to be pleased his team fared so far in the season. Detroit recorded wins against such teams as Oklahoma and Boston recently, and after a huge 131:107 win over the Phoenix Suns, the Pistons are in the 2nd position in the Eastern Conference with the 14-6 record. They have a slightly better record than the conference reigning champions Cleveland Cavaliers, and a potential win here would keep them at the top of the Central Division.

Detroit scored 69 points in the first half against the Suns, limiting the opponents to just 41 points, and the visitors could not get back into the tilt, so it is no wonder why the Pistons secured a big victory. Van Gundy’s men had fantastic 57.3% from the field and hit 13 triples on 28 attempts (46.4%), while they also dominated the boards (44-37), and assists (31-21). Reggie Jackson led Detroit with 25 points, five dishes, and two steals, Tobias Harris added 20 points and seven rebounds, while Avery Bradley scored 20 points and a couple of thefts. Ish Smith contributed with 13 points and six assists, Andre Drummond ended with 14 points, seven rebounds, and seven dimes, while Luke Kennard had 12 points, six dishes, and two steals. Thirteen players entered the rotation, and only Reggie Bullock failed to score a point, while six of them scored double-digits. Jackson should have a favorable matchup with Tim Frazier, and I expect him to display another 20+ point performance, while Bradley and Drummond are facing Bradley Beal and Marcin Gortat and I believe they could play a significant role for the visitors the offense. The Pistons are without a win in the capital since 2014 and are eager to snap the negative streak of six straight defeats at Capitol One Arena.

Stan Van Gundy is happy to have almost all players at his disposal as only Jon Leuer is unable to help his teammates due to an ankle injury, and he is visiting Indianapolis for the second opinion. There is no timetable for Leuer’s return to the floor, so Eric Moreland, Henry Ellenson, and Boban Marjanovic will receive more playing minutes until Leuer is available. The Pistons are scoring 105.80 points per contest on average (16th in the NBA), while they are allowing 102.40 points in return (7th in the NBA). Detroit is among the best five teams (3rd) in the league when it comes to perimeter shooting (39.07%), while their defense is in the 8th position in the NBA in limiting the rivals to 41.65 rebounds per game.

The Wizards are hoping for the seventh consecutive win over the Pistons at home

The Washington Wizards are not in good form of late since John Wall sustained an injury, and they lost five out of the last seven games, which Is unacceptable for the team that wants to fight for the conference title. At the moment, Washington is in the 8th position in the Eastern Conference with the 11-10 record, and Scott Brooks’ side is at the top of the Southeast Division with a win ahead of the Miami Heat.

Washington scored only 40 points in the first half in opposite to Philadelphia’s 58 in the most recent 113:118 defeat, and winning the final quarter by 14 points, scoring 48 in the process, wasn’t enough for a comeback. The 76ers destroyed the Wizards below the rims as they recorded 64 rebounds, while Washington had only 35. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the Wizards with 22 points, seven boards, four assists, but was forced to leave the clash early as he fouled out, while Jodie Meeks scored a season-high 21 points and four rebounds. Bradley Beal added 21 points and four boards, but he also left the game prematurely due to six personal fouls, while Tomas Satoransky chipped in with season-high 12 points and eight dimes. Beal is the man to watch for the hosts even though he is facing Bradley who is a solid defender, while I expect to see Otto Porter bouncing back following a bad shooting night as he made just three shots on 14 attempts. Oubre will likely be another key individual in the offense, but I don’t think Gortat will play a vital role in a tough matchup with Drummond, who should own the paint on Friday.

Scott Brooks is without a point guard John Wall who is suffering from a knee injury and will be sidelined for a couple of weeks, so the burden will fall on Bradley Beal to contribute offensively, while Tim Frazier and Jodie Meeks will see increased minutes on the floor. The Wizards are scoring 107.71 points per contest on average (11th in the NBA), while they are allowing 104.43 points in return (12th in the NBA). Washington is among the best ten teams in the league (9th) when it comes to shooting from downtown (36.98%), and their defense is excellent in defending the perimeter, allowing just 32.87% to the rivals, which is good enough for the second place in the NBA.

Detroit Pistons at Washington Wizards Trends & Prediction

The Pistons are 14-5-1 against the spread (8-2 away), while they are 10-10 on over/under (4-6 away), so considering these numbers, it might be better to play on Detroit here than going with points, as they are 4-1 against the spread in the last five games.

The Wizards are 11-10 against the spread (3-7 home), while they are 8-13 on over/under (5-5 home), and given that John Wall’s absence hit them pretty hard, I am suggesting you do not play on Washington here. That being said, the visitors are looking closer to the victory, despite the recent record at Capitol One Arena.

My Pick: Detroit Pistons -1.5 (-110)

Total: Pass
