DIJON
The Mustards are playing in a pretty good form recently, as they have won four out of their last six Ligue matches, along with two losses away from home against Amiens, 2:1, and Nice, 1:0. Since they have beaten Metz on the road in the 10th round of the French Ligue 1, The Mustards recorded three victories on a home soil, beating Toulouse (3:1), Troyes (3:1), and Nantes (1:0), while they didn’t draw in the previous seven Ligue 1 matches. Meanwhile, The Mustards lost to Rennes in front of the home fans, 2:1, in the French Coupe de la Ligue Round of 32.
In the previous round of the French Ligue 1, Dijon played a thrilling game at Amiens, losing 2:1 in the end after they missed some excellent chances in the second half to level the match and earn at least a point against The Unicorns. It was a nightmare start for The Mustards when Gael Kakuta scored the opening goal for the home side after his free-kick took a reflection of the wall and finished behind Baptiste Reynet’s back. Just six minutes later it could be 2:0 for Amiens, but Oussama Haddadi cleared the ball off the line after Lacina Traore’s shot. The Mustards leveled the match in the 15th minute when Chang-Hoon Kwon took a beautiful left-foot shot to the top right corner of Amiens’ goal after an excellent one-two with Frederic Sammaritano.
After Amiens took another lead early in the second half, The Mustards started to play more aggressively and they made a few great chances until the end of the match. In the 72nd minute, Wesley Said’s shot from just inside of the box was brilliantly saved by Amien’s goalkeeper, while just two minutes later Julio Tavares ruined another opportunity when his right-foot shot went wide of the left post. In the 80th minute of the game, Julio Tavares had his second huge opportunity, but this time Regis Gurtner saved his header. Amiens’ goalkeeper was excellent in the second half, and he made another terrific save in the 86th minute after Wesley Said’s tricky shot from about 25 yards. The Mustards didn’t deserve to lose this one, but they just couldn’t beat Regis Gurtner in the second 45 minutes.
After the first 15 rounds of the French Ligue 1, Dijon is in the 13th spot of the table with 18 points, a 21:25 goal difference and a 5-3-7 record, just four points above the danger zone. At home, they have recorded four victories, one draw, and three losses with a 12:11 goal difference, while they’ve won three games in a row on the home soil. The Mustards have earned just five points on the road, recording one win, two draws, and four defeats with a 9:14 goal difference. They have conceded at least a goal in every single away match this season, while they couldn’t keep the clean sheet in the previous four Ligue 1 games.
The 23-year old South Korean winger Chang-Hoon Kwon is the team’s leading scorer with five goals in 13 appearances, while the 29-year old striker Julio Tavares bagged four goals in nine matches this season. The 31-year old attacking midfielder Frederic Sammaritano is the team’s top assist-maker with three dishes in 12 appearances, while Chang-Hoon Kwon, Naim Sliti, and Julio Tavares made two assists each so far. The 25-year old winger Naim Sliti is having a nice season thus far, also adding two goals to his name in 10 appearances.
The manager Olivier Dall’Oglio is still without the centre-back Wesley Lautoa (fractured leg), while Naim Sliti is listed as doubtful for the next match with Bordeaux due to a muscle injury. All other players are healthy and ready to go.
BORDEAUX
The Girondins finally put an end to a seven-game string without a win after they’ve beaten Saint Etienne, 3:0, in the previous round of the French Ligue 1. They were playing pretty poorly in the last couple of weeks, and a convincing victory over The Saints should be a huge boost for their self-confidence before they face Dijon this Friday.
Bordeaux started aggressively against Saint Etienne and they took the lead in the fifth minute after Alexandre Mendy’s thunder strike from the edge of the box. In the 31st minute, the Brazilian winger Malcom doubled the lead with a magnificent left-foot shot from about 35 yards, proving he’s in a terrific form this season. Twelve minutes after the break Alexandre Mendy scored his second of the match with a close-range header after Youssouf Sabaly’s brilliant cross from the wing. It was the end of the road for the visitors and a huge relief for Bordeaux’s players and fans.
The six-time French champions are in the ninth spot of the French Ligue 1 table after the first 15 rounds with 20 points, a 20:20 goal difference, and a 5-5-5 record. At home, they have recorded four wins, two draws, and one defeat with a 12:6 goal difference, while on the road they have recorded one victory, three draws, and four losses with an 8:14 goal difference. The Girondins lost four consecutive matches away from home, and they will try to end this string against Dijon on Friday night.
The 20-year old winger Malcom is the team’s leading scorer with six goals in 15 appearances, and he’s arguably Bordeaux’s best player this season. The 23-year old striker Alexandre Mendy, who arrived this summer from Guingamp, bagged four goals in 14 appearances, the same as the 28-year old midfielder Younousse Sankhare who also added one assist to his name. Malcom and a winger Francois Kamano are the team’s best assist-makers so far with four dishes apiece.
The manager Jocelyn Gourvennec is surely happy after a convincing victory over Saint Etienne, and he can pick up his best eleven for the next clash at Dijon, as there are no injury worries among his squad.
DIJON vs. BORDEAUX – Match Prediction
Dijon won three consecutive matches on the home soil, while The Girondins suffered four defeats in a row on the road, so this clash will be quite interesting to watch. I believe Bordeaux is a better team, and I think they will earn at least a point in this one. Therefore, I will go with The Girondins on Friday night.
MY PICK: Bordeaux to Win (+160)
