Monday night, the Golden State Warriors cruised to a 2-0 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs with a 116-101 win. The Warriors just look too talented for the Spurs, who are playing without Kawhi Leonard. Draymond Green had a typical Draymond stat line: nine points, six assists, and five rebounds in 35 minutes.
He also had one flagrant foul, as Green elbowed Spurs big man Davis Bertrans high, and Bertrans fell to the floor.
After the game, Green blamed Bertrans for the shot and said it was a flop.
“I think it was a little bit of a flop,” Green said at the press conference. “I don’t even know if I hit him, but if I did — I’m not saying I didn’t, I don’t know — but if it’s going to be a flagrant foul, shouldn’t it be a double flagrant? Like, I can just get grabbed around my neck? I’m not going to sit up here and say I did nothing. I’ve got to get someone off my neck, though. If you’re going to penalize me, then why not penalize both? That’s really my only thing.”
Green said he’s not concerned about picking up a flagrant point.
“Nah, I don’t care. It is what it is,” Green said. “Life goes on. There’s more important things in life than worrying about a flagrant point. Maybe it’ll get rescinded. I got choked, put in a chokehold like I was in the WWE or something. So it might get rescinded. Who knows?”
It looked like Bertrans was innocent, and it definitely wasn’t a “choke hold.”
What’s going on with Kawhi?
The Spurs don’t seem to know. Leonard is recovering from a quadriceps injury, and he has played in only nine games this season. The team’s doctors have cleared him to return to play, but Leonard is working with his own medical staff in New York.
He will be an unrestricted free agent in 2019, and rumors have rumbled all year that the organization and player are simply on different pages. Kawhi may want out of his contract, or he may just be taking his time to return from a debilitating injury.
Game 3 will take place Thursday in San Antonio at 9:30 p.m. EST.
