Duke’s Rasheed Sulaimon Dismissed

Duke junior Rasheed Sulaimon (R) has been dismissed from the program, less than 24 hours after the Blue Devils' loss at Notre Dame.

According to a release from the school on Thursday afternoon, junior guard Rasheed Sulaimon has been dismissed from the Duke basketball program. The news came just hours after the Blue Devils fell to Notre Dame in a thriller, in South Bend.

In a statement released by the athletic department, quoting coach Mike Krzyzewski, “Rasheed has been unable to consistently live up to the standards required to be a member of our program. It is a privilege to represent Duke University and with that privilege comes the responsibility to conduct oneself in a certain manner. After Rasheed repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations, it became apparent that it was time to dismiss him from the program.”

Sulaimon was averaging 7.5 points and two rebounds per game and just under 20 minutes per game, all three of which were career lows in his two-plus seasons at Duke.

There were multiple reports a year ago that Sulaimon had worked himself into Krzyzewski’s dog house. A Dec. 3, 2013 meeting against Michigan went by without Sulaimon seeing the floor, the only game of his career that he didn’t appear.

The dismissal leaves Duke with just eight scholarship players, despite it being at a position where former McDonald’s All-American Grayson Allen can fill in.
